Bathroom Trends In 2023

“The bathroom interior design trend continues,” says Henri Prideaux of Henri Prideaux Interior Design. “By taking a biophilic approach and styling the bathroom with lots of natural elements like houseplants and pampas grass, you can create a soothing, spa-like haven to slip into” (as in the recently completed Prideaux London space).

“Spending more time at home since the start of the pandemic has meant a need to connect with nature as a way to reduce stress and anxiety, so going back to a relaxing space beautifully decorated with plants can help you feel nourished,” Prideaux explains. We often use plants to style our interiors, not only as a focal point to enhance space, but also for the added benefit of improving indoor air quality.”

“Meritage Homes is seeing a significant increase in the selection of luxury bathroom features,” reveals Amber Shay, the company’s national design director.

“Special features that create a sanctuary, such as a spa, are now a priority for many homebuyers,” she adds. “We expect this trend to continue through 2022. Consider luxurious finishes like tiled shower trays with detailed mosaic tiles, European-style shower doors with thick glass, minimal bezels, sleek hardware, and sophisticated undermount sinks with beautiful granite or quartz solid surfaces.”

A Spa Bathroom At Home

Designer Lucy Penfield predicts that benches and vanity stools, especially “soft and textured” ones, will become the “it” home accessories of 2022. Loved the care,” she says.

“Bathrooms are now limited to clinical all-white walls and a contemporary feel throughout,” agrees designer Avalana Simpson. “Even those who love clean lines and modern bathrooms are becoming more confident in busyness and boldness on the walls or in small recesses. Bold walls are no longer there to dazzle guests at the entrance,” she adds. “Instead, color, intricate murals and hand-drawn scenes add to bathrooms and powder rooms where homeowners can relax, unwind and appreciate every day.”

If the murals are a bit exaggerated, marble can achieve a more subtle impression. Andrew Henry of Andrew Henry Interiors predicts we will see “white and gray shades of marble used in more luxurious schemes”. As in this project in Mayfair, he advises that interior designers can create “a sense of opulence by using materials that contrast with each other to build visual and tactile texture in a room.”

Marble isn’t luxury in bathrooms in 2022: Paige Foss, an architectural designer at Dries Homes, says, “In the world of bathroom design, calm and serene are the calling cards, blending luxurious finishes and eye-catching storage features. The most important design elements to include? “The balance of light, natural colors give these spaces a happy, escapist feel, while the abundant use of tile makes the plumbing less decorative and more inviting.”

Bathroom Design Ideas For 2023

Manny Angelo Varas, president and CEO of MV Group USA, predicts that “mixing colors, textures and materials” will be a bathroom trend in 2022. “In the past, we’ve seen minimalist and monolithic tones in bathrooms,” he explained, “but, “for 2022, we’re creating projects with sandwich mirrors, textured wall coverings and woven glass with movement in space, instead of the usual monochromes we’ve seen in the past five years.”

However, this does not mean that there are no minimalist palettes, neutral spaces can be warmed up thanks to natural materials. “Bathrooms should now be clean, but not clinical,” advises David Thompson of Assemble+. “Bring in fresh air and let the sunlight fall on textured tiles, stone and wood. These rooms should be modest but with room to breathe, private but still connected. For example, a variation of the ‘Jack and Jill’ bathtub can be installed. A shared shower opposite the separate as rooms.”

Paul Wells of Sanctuary Bathrooms says “more and more people are choosing showers and wet rooms instead of baths, while at the same time they’re moving from small cubicles to much larger and larger enclosures.”

In addition, this trend “compared to colorful patterned tiles, it can create a stunning wall or background.” And Wells explains “It’s not necessarily the death of the shower, but there’s definitely been a big slowdown in recent years as people start to think more about themselves than others. Showers are a convenience because people live so fast, but they’re also a luxury and there’s always a market for attractive freestanding baths.”

“Consumers are more informed about what they like and want, and when it comes to designing their bathroom, are willing to take more risks to create something truly unique,” says Darren Allison of BC Designs. “The secret to success is in the mix. Remember, he advises!” Need design ideas for this trend? Try modern and sleek faucets or vintage faucets with a modern sink, suggests Allison.

While sleek, all-white bathroom design has had its place in the limelight over the years, we’re seeing a shift to the natural side. A growing focus on all things organic has created room for a fresh aesthetic in key design components, textures and accessories.

However, “natural” does not mean “boring”! One of the trends that will definitely get attention this year is the addition of wallpaper. Wallpaper is a great way to breathe new life into your space. Choose a bold new style, opt for a natural look or stick to a modern bathroom. One thing we know for sure is that the new year brings exciting possibilities when we think about the bathroom.

While white and gray always have a place, it seems that many people are looking for a little color. Trust us, there are many ways to incorporate timeless bathroom trends! This year, homeowners are opting for a richer color palette with warmer hues, which represents a change in trend compared to recent years.

A guest bathroom is a particularly great place to experiment with adding a new color, and some anticipated trends include trendy blues, pale and earthy contrasting colors, and soothing greens.  A fresh coat of paint is one of the easiest bathroom ideas to improve and enhance your current space.
