Bathroom Interior Design Plan

Bathroom Interior Design Plan – I often get questions about how much space should be allocated for a room. Is 20 ft x 25 ft a good size for a large room? Is a 14 ft x 16 ft room big enough for a master bedroom? And for our children’s bedrooms, is 12 feet x 10 feet too small?

You might be surprised to know that I don’t actually look at or design spaces based on specific parameters. There are many different variables and factors that come into play when creating a successful floor plan. In reality, there are no rooms or units independent of each other, but like puzzle pieces that sit side by side and fit together, and these relationships are more important to the quality of the floor plan than the amount of square footage assigned to each room. . space

To illustrate this important point, I’m sharing a different bathroom floor plan from a recent floor plan review for a remodeling/addition project for a virtual client. We begin by discussing the bathroom floor design issues presented for consideration, and then study the proposed plan, explain and explain the solution. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Interpretation Notes As with any floor plan review, before meeting with a virtual client, I prepare red line notes for the entire set of floor plans showing problem areas as well as potential solutions to each issue they present. Done so the design assistant could draw my suggestions in CAD. Please note that this is done after the event and is for educational purposes only. Floor plan review service results include loose floor plan layer sketches showing potential solutions, not CAD-developed drawings. Computer drawings are provided for full service projects only.

Take a look at the previous floor plan shown below, then scroll down to see the number and description of design issues that corresponded to the original bathroom plan.

Note the wasted space between the tub and the sink cabinet. To achieve a well-designed bathroom, the layout of fixtures and cabinets should facilitate optimal use and functionality of the room – while avoiding awkward transitions.

If the bathroom design is left as is, the space between the tub and the closet makes easy access difficult and creates a dead zone for falling objects and dolls and hair traps.

How To Pick The Best Bathroom Layout For Your Dream Space

Plus, it’s only a matter of time before the cabinet sides show splash damage.

As shown, the closet width does not allow for adequate storage of bathroom and counter space. Notice how the sink takes up most of the cabinets and countertops.

Not a good place to lean when opening the bathroom door. Notice how it slides up and down the side of the cabinet, making for clumsy and awkward movement – not to mention potential damage to the side of the cabinet.

Speaking of proper door swings, notice how the bathroom door goes into the master bathroom, not the actual bathroom. Bathroom doors should always—yes, always and without exception—open inward, not outward.

Unfortunately, in this scenario, to fix the door jam, it causes the door to open in front of the window, which is another thing, never!

But there is an easy solution if this is the only floor plan problem – pocket doors solve both problems.

Now let’s consider some possible solutions to the problems described above. As before, take a look at the edited bathroom floor plan below, then scroll down to see the corresponding figures and descriptions.

A Resolution Leads to the Future If you’re a regular reader of My Design Journal, you’ll know that when it comes to updating floor plans, it’s often the case that solving one problem allows you to solve another. In order to successfully improve a floor plan, in addition to foresight and the ability to identify problems, the next requirement is the ability to identify the key ingredient or catalyst for solving the problem.

Common Bathroom Floor Plans

Note how the cabinet sides are firmly attached to the new toilet/bathroom walls that I added to the revised floor plan. No more pockets of wasted space or lack of intentional transitions between tub and sink cabinets.

Instead of using two small sink cabinets that lacked storage and counter space made worse by improperly closed doors, I used a tall cabinet that provided more counter space and more storage. Also notice how I added a tall linen drawer to the end of the sink cabinet, greatly increasing its storage capacity.

Cumbersome door hardware that hinders the flow and movement of a space. As explained above, repositioning the shower door is truly a magic potion that can solve all other design problems.

No more awkward bathroom doors that slide out instead of sliding into place properly. Relocating the bathroom door allows for a separate toilet/bath space, making the bathroom suitable for more than one child at a time.

To make it easier to see the difference between the before and after plans, I’ve included a graphic that shows the plans side by side. As you review, note the increasing flow, order, and purpose of all the changes in the bathroom space.
