The master bathroom in 1987’s Fixer Upper was very bleak and dark. You walked directly from the master bedroom to the sink area. As you can see below, there were two sinks and a toilet separated by a door that led to an adjoining room containing a bath, shower, and toilet. The master closet was off the sink area and separated into two closets by separate sliding doors. As you can see in the photo, one was blocking the second sink when the door was opened.

This area was carpeted, very dark, with only one small window in the back corner of the house, and very basic, including a low sink, high quality faucets, and architectural lighting. . When I walked inside the house for the first time, I knew there was plenty of space and that I needed to reconfigure and modernize it. Like the rest of the house, we wanted this room to be open and lighter, brighter and more usable. The construction work was a huge mess!

It can be said that the situation has changed considerably. 😉 This was the part of the structure where you could literally see the entire house. There was a weird small, shallow closet at the top of the stairs that was taking up some of the space I wanted for the bathroom, so I tore it out.
As you can see, we added a lot of windows so the light coming in is amazing. The toilet is also in a separate room.
Remember when we talked about the privacy wall in the master bedroom? This allowed us to make the closet several feet larger. I also opened up a wall so he had one large closet instead of two small closets and removed one of his closet doors. Much better! ! We will introduce more details about the pantry later. But here you can see his single new wide door, a second framed door, and a new window he added to the closet to freshen things up.

That’s right! What a difference! We installed gray cabinetry here and the same Bella Statuario quartz countertops as in the kitchen. I just love them. I wanted a big shower, and this 4×4 shower is perfect for me. The gray cabinetry is painted Rest Gray by Sherwin-Williams, and the flooring is the same wood used on the main floor and master bedroom. Made of hardwood, it is ideal for bathrooms. I also have it in my bathroom at home in Orange County, and I love it. It’s hard to see in these photos, but subway tiles are not flat. It has a texture that reflects the light in an interesting way and makes it look a little rustic. At the end of this post, I will list and link everything I used in this bathroom overhaul.

This master bathroom makeover made a huge difference. I can’t believe there is so much space. Adding windows to open everything made a huge difference. I love the muted colors and rustic touches like the pebble shower and wood floors. I’m very happy with all the results.

Today I’m back with even more bathroom excitement. I took a peek at my mom’s master bath, which has a new freestanding tub. Two years ago, we refreshed the space to remove the architect’s vanity and add a little more of her feminine style. Things were fine for a while, but my mother really wanted to renovate the entire room. She didn’t really like the tiles on her floor or shower and it bothered her every day. This is what it looks like “before”. This is the area before refreshing in the custom toilet. My mom didn’t like the builder’s master toilet.
This is an improved toilet. She was much better, but the rest of the room wanted a change.
Isn’t it amazing? Hexagonal tile flooring, dark brown tiles throughout, and that freestanding bathtub… so nice! When I entered this room, it really felt like a hotel, and my mom was very happy with how it turned out. Let’s take a look at the details.

I have to say I’m so jealous of her new freestanding bathtub. I’m a huge sauna fan and if this were my house I would use it every night. She had previously been using an old bathtub, and we were both very excited when she found out she could use a freestanding bathtub instead. My mom doesn’t take baths often, but she does thanks to this gorgeous new bathtub.
She chose black hardware for the wall hanging, which looks great against the dark brown tiles and white bathtub.
I really like the simple shape of the bathtub. The sink has so many details that we didn’t want this tub to compete with that. Rather, it’s just nice, classy, and big!
Bought this custom bath mat for her mother to use here on her Mother’s Day. I think it works very well. Wood adds warmth and complements a wooden vanity. Additionally, there is space to place wine glasses.
