Small Bathroom Remodel With Tub And Shower

Small Bathroom Remodel With Tub And Shower – Two weeks ago I shared my mom’s guest toilet demo and you loved it. I knew you would. It was quite a change from the dark green space. (Or nuts? The debate continues.)

Today I’m back with another bathroom wave – check out Mom’s master bathroom, complete with a new tub! Two years ago, we updated this space, removing the carpenter’s vanity and adding a little more feminine flair. This was good for a while, but my mom really wanted to update the whole room. He didn’t like the tiles on the floor or in the shower and it bothered him every day. He realized he was living with something he hated and vowed to change it as soon as possible.

Before moving on to the next pictures, let’s take a look at the previous pictures and the design plan of the space.

Here is a look at “old”. This is the space before we updated it with a custom space. Mom didn’t like the vanity of the first builder, not to mention having a double sink when she didn’t need it.

Here it is with an advanced vacuum. It was prettier, but the rest of the room was eager for a change.

Isn’t that amazing? Hexagon tiles on the floor, taupe tiles throughout and a private bathroom…holy smoke! When you enter this space it really feels like a hotel and my mom was not happy with how it turned out. Let’s get into the details.

I have to say I am very jealous of her new freestanding bath. I have a huge bath and if it was my house I would use this every night! It used to have an old fashioned hot tub and we were both happy when we realized that a separate tub would work instead. Mom isn’t even in a big tub, but she’s taking a bath thanks to this beautiful new tub!

We went with black wall-mounted hardware, which really pops against the taupe tile and white tub.

I love the shape of the tub because it’s so simple. There is a lot of detail in the vanity and I didn’t want this bathroom to compete with that. Instead it’s just nice and smooth and BIG!

I bought my mom this special bath sheet for Mother’s Day and I think it would work perfectly in use here. Wood adds warmth and adds to the beauty of wood. In addition, there is even a place for a glass of wine!

Over the bath we chose this gorgeous bronze chandelier which adds so much to the space. It illuminates, but also brings a bit of glamor to the whole room.

I love how the capiz shells on this chandelier complement the capiz mirror in the guest bathroom. It’s all about repeating elements in the home and making everything feel together.

A very smart addition is adding a vanity next to a separate bathtub. It’s the perfect place not only to put a glass of water or a bottle of shampoo, but also to have a little fun with art and accessories. We had the contractor apply the tiles and paint them the same color as the wall (Benjamin Moore “Mist Fog”). Originally we were going to do wood for the shelf but it felt a bit overwhelming with the wood on this side of the room between the bathroom stairs and the tub.

For art, we knew we had to take big steps to fill this big gap. (The ceiling is 10 feet up here!) Mom ordered the print on the left in 24×36 from Juniper and then bought this piece from Minted in 18×24 used this cheap black frame from Target to frame. I always say every room needs a little black so I’m glad we went with black for the frames.

The plant above the candlestick is fake because there are no windows, the other is a pothos plant that is usually in mom’s room. I’m trying to find a good fake curtain plant to replace it with and I’ll let you know if I find something that looks realistic!

Is A Doorless Shower Right For Your Master Bath Remodel?

Now across the room…the shower! The layout of this space is similar to the previous pictures.

However, we had the contractor move the temperature control and on/off valve to the right side of the shower. So the mother can take a shower without getting wet! I recommend this if you are reconfiguring your shower.

Mom also wanted a bench here (good for shaving legs) and we weren’t sure we had enough room. Instead of building a longer stand on the starboard wall, we had the crew create a slightly sloped bench. It turned out so beautiful!

The shower was another must have for my mom and I love that they went above and beyond with this one. She even bought beautiful cosmetic bottles for all her products so it looks clean and simple.

And what about tiles? Isn’t that so cute?! We were originally going to go with this Cloe tile, but it got backordered, which was a problem in the guest bathroom, so we did some hard research and found this replacement. It’s called WOW in “Fez” and we use the color “Warm Glow”. My mom ordered it from a local chip shop and it arrived quickly! Our original tiles were a little gray and this one is warmer and grayer.

I am happy with the end result. I thought gray would be too cool here and it turned out to be exactly that.

For the glass, mom chose beautiful black glass. It looks nice and simple here and doesn’t have to worry about opening and closing the door. We knew he would work in the new space because it was similar to the previous setup which he liked.

I always liked how this traditional vanity turned out and now I like it even more. You can see we have shower tiles pushed back a bit throughout the room, including above the vanity. We didn’t have tiles behind the tiles because tiles are expensive and a lot would go to waste, but of course you can’t tell.

Using Sealants In A Bathroom Remodel

As for the nudity details, I found this great dress from MegMade in Chicago two years ago. I had them remodeled and then ordered a stone counter from Lowe’s, along with a faucet and sink. We refinished the entire dresser to become a vanity and it came out great. You can read more about the process in this blog post.

We kept many of the same accessories and pieces on the vanity because they always reflect my mother’s style. Now the rest of the room suits it perfectly!

When designing a bathroom, I like to use at least two metals. This creates interest and keeps the room from looking too flat. Here we chose black and copper. We have black fittings and black shower doors in the shower and bathtub.

Next we have a bronze chandelier, chandelier and faucet to bring out the warmth of the gold/brass tone.

Oh, and we chose a black lever for the bathroom. It’s all about those little details that bring a space together.

The before and after pictures prove that this space has come a long way in a very short time!

Next week, Mom will be taking to the blog to share the lessons she learned along with these two great projects. This is his first time taking on a project of this magnitude and I know he has a lot of wisdom to share. Oh, and it also gives a timeline for this project (I think they both finished the bathroom in three weeks!) and a total budget for both bathrooms. I know you always like to see numbers. Stay tuned for this…
