Small Bathroom With Shower And Freestanding Tub

Small Bathroom With Shower And Freestanding Tub – Two weeks ago I shared my mom’s guest bathroom and you loved it. I know you will. It’s quite a transformation from that dark green blob. (Or is it black? The debate continues.)

I’m back with more bathroom excitement today – a look at Mom’s master bath, complete with a new freestanding tub! Two years ago we renovated this space to remove the basic builder’s vanity and add a little more feminine style. It was nice for a while, but my mom really wanted to renovate the whole room. He is not a fan of the tile floor or shower and it bothers him every day. He finally realized he was living with something he hated and vowed to change it as soon as possible.

Before we take the next photos, let’s look at the previous photos and the design plan of the space.

The Best Relaxing Bath Design Ideas

Here’s a look at the “before.” This is the space before we renovated it with the usual vanity. My mom didn’t like the vanity of the foundation, let alone having a double sink when she didn’t really need one.

Here it is with a better vanity. This is much better, but the rest of the room is dying for a change.

Isn’t it amazing? Hexagon tile floors, brown tile throughout and a standing tub… It really feels like a hotel when you walk into this space and my mom couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Let’s dive into the details.

I have to say, I am very jealous of her new freestanding tub. I’m a big bathroom person and would probably use this every night if this was my house! She previously had an old-fashioned hot tub, and when we found out that a freestanding tub could work in its place, we were both thrilled. Mom isn’t much of a bather, but she was because of this new tub!

Small Bathroom Ideas To Make Your Bathroom Feel Bigger

We chose black wall hardware and it pops against the dark brown tiles and white tub.

I love the shape of the tub because it’s so simple. The vanity has a lot of detail and I didn’t want this tub to compete with that. Instead, it’s nice, elegant and BIG!

I bought this custom shower tray for my mom for Mother’s Day to use here and I think it works perfectly. The wood adds warmth and complements the wooden vanity. Plus, there’s even room for a glass of wine!

Above the tub we chose this lovely brass pendant light and wow it adds so much to the space. It freshens things up but also brings a bit of sparkle to the whole room.

I love how the capiz shell on this pendant light complements the capiz mirror in the guest bathroom. It’s all about repeating elements in your home to keep everything connected.

A very clever addition is the addition of a shelf near the freestanding tub. Not only is it a great place to put a glass of water or a bottle of shampoo, but it’s also a perfect place to entertain with some art and accessories. We just had a contractor add a piece of wood over the tiles and he painted the same color as the wall (Benjamin Moore “Mist Mist”). We were going to do the wood for the shelf, but between the bathroom sink and the toilet it felt a bit heavy with the wood on the side of the room.

For art, we know we have to be big to fill that big space. (The ceilings here are 10 feet!) Mom ordered the print on the left from Juniper Print Store in 24×36 and then bought this little piece from Minted in 18×24. We used the inexpensive black frame from Target to frame them. I always say that every room needs a little black, so I’m glad we chose black for the frame.

The plant on the wooden candlestick is artificial because there are no windows here, and the other is the pothos plant, which usually lives in the mother’s living room. I’m trying to find a good faux draped plant to replace it with and will let you know if I find something that looks realistic!

Now, across the room… the shower! The layout of this room is almost identical to the previous picture.

However, we ended up having the contractor move the air regulator and on/off valve to the right side of the shower. So mom can take a shower without getting wet! I highly recommend it if you are reorganizing your shower.

Mom also wants a bench in here (great for shaving legs) and we’re not sure we have enough room to put one. Instead of building another on the right side wall, we had the crew make a slightly sloping bench. It turned out very funny!

The shower stall is another one for my mom and I love how long and wide they are with this one. She even bought a cute bottle of toiletries for all her items to make them look clean and simpler.

And what about the tiles? Very beautiful, isn’t it?! We originally had plans to use this Cloe tile, but it was back ordered, the same problem we had in the guest bathroom, so we searched frantically and found this new one. It’s called WOW in “Fez” and we use the color “Warm Gloss”. My mom ordered it from her local tile store, The Tile Outlet, and it arrived quickly! Our original box was quite gray, while this one is warmer and grayer.

I’m happy with the end result. I think the gray would have been too cool here and everything worked as it should.

For the glasses, my mother chose a thin piece of glass with a black rim. It looks nice and elegant here and he doesn’t have to worry about opening and closing the door. It’s similar to the previous setup, which he liked, so we knew it would work in the new space.

I’ve always loved how this custom vanity turned out and now I love it again. You can see that we have brown tile from the shower going all the way around the room, including above the sink as a bit of a backsplash. We don’t have tile behind the sink because tile is expensive and a lot of it gets wasted, but you definitely can’t tell.

Walk In Shower Ideas To Design Your Oasis

As for the outfit details, I got this lovely dresser from MegMade, here in Chicago, two years ago. I had them refinish it and then ordered a stone countertop from Lowe’s along with the faucet and sink. We converted the entire dresser into a toilet and it turned out great. You can read more about the process in this blog post.

We ended up keeping most of the accessories the same as the bathroom pieces because they still reflect my mom’s style. Now the rest of the room matches perfectly!

When designing a bathroom, I like to use at least two metals. This creates interest and keeps the room from feeling too flat. Here we chose black and brass. We have black hardware in the shower and tub, along with a black shower door.

Then we have brass chandeliers, sconces and toilet taps to bring in the warmth of gold/brass tones.

Simple Bathroom Design Ideas That Will Wow You

Oh, and we even chose a black lever for the toilet. It’s all about the little details to pull the space together.

The before and after photos confirm that this space has come a long way in a short amount of time!

Next week, Mom will be taking over the blog to share the lessons she’s learned along the way with these two big projects. This is my first time taking on a project of this magnitude and I know he has a lot of wisdom to share. Oh, and it will also break up the schedule for this project (I think they have two bathrooms in three weeks!) and the overall budget for the bathroom. I know you always like to see numbers. Stay tuned for that…
