Bathroom Remodel Ideas With Tub And Shower – A few weeks ago I showed you my mom’s bathroom and you guys love it. I know you will. This is a big change in this dark green area. (Or was it black? The debate continues.)
Today I’m back with bathroom excitement – check out my mom’s bathroom with a new freestanding tub! Two years ago, we renovated this space to add a more feminine style by removing the builder’s vanity. It was fine for a while, but mom really wanted to fix up the whole room. He wasn’t a fan of the tiled floor or the rain that bothered him every day. He finally realizes that he is living with something he hates and promises to change soon.

Before we get to the wallpaper, let’s take a look at the background photos and the layout of the space.
Master Bathroom Renovation
Search here for “before”. This is the post before we update it with a custom vanity. My mom didn’t like the builder’s vanity, not to mention that it was a double vanity when she didn’t need it.
This is a sophisticated error. It was fun, but the whole room was itching for a change.
Incredible? Hexagon tile floors, tub tile throughout the room, and a freestanding tub… holy smokes! It really feels like a hotel when you enter this place and my mom was not too happy that it turned out that way. Let’s go into the details.
I have to say, I’m very jealous of your new comfy bathtub. I am a huge washer and would use this every night if it was my home! It used to be an outdated jacuzzi tub, and when we realized that a freestanding tub could work in its place, we were both very happy. Mom isn’t much of a bather, but she’s showering because of that beautiful new tub!
Small Bathroom Ideas & How To Make It Look Bigger
We went with black hardware on the wall, which really pops in the tub and white tub.
I love the shape of the container because it’s so simple. A vanity has a lot of detail and I didn’t want this tub to compete with it. Instead, it’s nice, soft and big!
I bought this bath tray for my mom for Mother’s Day and I think it works perfectly. The wood gives warmth and complements the wood vanity. There is also room for a wine glass!
We chose this beautiful bronze chandelier over the bath, wow, it adds so much to the space. It brightens things up, but also adds sparkle to the whole room.

I love how the capybara shells on the chandelier complement the capybara mirror in the guest bathroom. It’s about repeating things in your home to keep everything together.
Adding a ledge near the freestanding tub is a great addition. Not only is it a good place for a glass of water or a bottle of shampoo, but it’s also a great place to have some fun with art and accessories. The contractor put a piece of wood on top of the tiles and painted it the same color as the walls (Benjamin Moore “Fog Mist”). We started woodworking the closet, but the wood on the other side of the room, between the sink and the vanity, was a little difficult.
In art, we knew we had to go big to fill this big space. (The ceiling here is 10 feet!) Mom ordered the print on the left in 24×36 from Juniper Print Shop and then bought this small piece in 18×24 at Minted. We used these inexpensive black frames from Target to make the frame. I always say that every room needs a bit of black, so I’m glad to have black in the frame.
The tree candlestick plant is fake because there are no windows here, and another pothos plant that always lives in my mother’s room. I’ll try to find a good trophy plant to replace it with and let you know if it turns out to be true!

Now, on the other side of the room… the shower! The layout of the place is similar to the previous pictures.
However, we decided to have the contractor move the temperature control and on/off valve to the right side of the shower. So mom can turn on the shower without getting wet! I highly recommend it if you are renovating your bathroom.
My mom also wanted a bench in here (perfect for shaving her legs) and we’re not sure there’s enough room for it. Instead of building a long wall on the right, the group built a small rectangular bench. It looked so good!
Another must-have for moms is the shower head, and I love that they went all out on this one. She bought beautiful toilet bottles to make everything look clean and tidy.

And what about the tiles? Isn’t it cute?! We originally planned for this gloss tile, but ordered it back and had the same problem as the guest bath, so we did a quick search and found this replacement. In “Fez” it’s called WOW and we used the color “Warm Gloss”. My mom ordered it from her local tile store, Tile Outlet, and it arrived quickly! Our original page was very gray, while this one is warmer and more readable.
I’m happy with the end result. I think gray would have been really cool here, I think it should look like this.
As for the glass, my mother chose a thin piece of glass with black trim. It looks nice and tidy here and you don’t have to worry about opening and closing the door. It was like a preset that he liked so we knew it would work in the new environment.
I’ve always loved the refined way of culture, and now I love it even more. You can see the top tile from the shower across the room, including above the sink as a bit of a backsplash. We didn’t put them behind the vanity because tile is expensive and a lot goes to waste, but you can’t tell for sure.
Traditional Tub/shower Combo Ideas You’ll Love
As for vanity details, I found this beautiful McMade rug in Chicago a few years ago. I repaired it and then ordered a stone counter from Lowes and a faucet and sink. We turned the entire dresser into a vanity and it worked great. You can read more about the process in this blog post.
We decided to put the same accessories and pieces in the bathroom because they still reflect mom’s style. Now the whole room fits perfectly!
I like to use at least two metals when designing a bathroom. It adds interest and keeps the room from looking too flat. Here we chose black and bronze. The shower and tub have black fixtures with a black shower door.
Then we have a copper chandelier, burner and a basin tap to bring the warmth of the gold/copper tones.
Budget Friendly Small Bathroom Remodel And Update Ideas
Oh, and we chose a black lever on the toilet. It’s all about the little details that bring the place together.
These before and after pictures prove that this place has come a long way in a very short time!

Next week, Mom will be taking to the blog to share the lessons learned from these two big projects. This is your first time taking on a project of this scale and I know you have a lot of wisdom to share. Oh, and you’re beating the project deadline (I think they finished both bathrooms in three weeks!) I know you always like to see the numbers. Waiting for her…
