Modern Bath Designs Riverside – This week I’m sharing the first of three bathroom designs for our new home, starting with our master bathroom! As much as I love dark and moody atmospheres, this is definitely not the place for it. (Hint: The rest of the house gets dark and moody…)
It was important to us that the space be light, bright, modern, and pay homage (or two) to the house’s historic style. When I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom, I want to feel energized and ready to start the day. That dictated a lot of the design choices I made here. However, I also wanted to make sure the room wasn’t sterile, so I’d also add warm woods, brass accents, and lots of textures to the space, along with the fun patterned tiles I’d been waiting for. Share it first!

Looking at all of these pictures, I can see that they all have the same basic concept:
Clever Ideas For Modern Bathrooms
See that pocket door in the toilet? This is a feature I specifically wanted to implement in this house! There is also a passage downstairs that leads from the corridor to the office.
Natural light is very important in this room. There are two windows, one in the shower room. We weren’t so sure about this at first
But after careful consideration, we decided we needed that window, and we’ll address the privacy concerns later. That’s why it’s important to be clear about how you want your space to feel—it’ll help when you’re making tough decisions. In our case, natural light > privacy.
I also kept the wall and trim tint (Alabaster by Sherwin Williams). The vertical panels of the toilet bowl are also painted this color.
Beautiful Large Bathroom Ideas And Designs
I love the look of a wooden vanity in the bathroom, but it’s hard to find one that fits “on the shelf.” We were looking for something custom made by a cabinet maker, but I also chose a dresser that I thought could easily be turned into a dresser.
We’ll be adding a quartz countertop and some semi-recessed rectangular sinks, along with wall-mounted faucets to keep the vanity surface clean and easy to clean.
Another major warmth in the room comes from the original brass light fixture. I love their finish, they have a slight patina that softens the modern look of the bathroom a bit.
Choosing tiles is one of my favorite parts of designing a home, and I’ve spent many happy hours over the past few months working on page after page of tiles. I’m not a fan of patterned tiles at all, and this is where the pattern play comes into play. Floor tile is a beautiful clay tile that has the look of cement tile but requires no maintenance – it is completely sealed. This tile will continue to appear on the center shower wall. For the two side shower walls, I chose porcelain wood grain tiles with ribbon accents. I can’t wait to see this tile combo in action!

But the highlight is the Roman clay treatment on the wall behind the vanity and tub. I chose a very neutral finish that matched the wall color as much as possible so that it was a subtle accent rather than stealing the show.
I think this will cover it. There’s a lot going on here, but I feel really good about every element, so I’m hoping there will be some magic when they come together…we’ll see!

Beige Bathroom ( Calm & Relaxing )
Thanks for reading! I often use affiliate links in my posts. Please note that I won’t recommend anything that I personally don’t like. For more information, click here. The day has arrived! After months of planning and DIY, the master bathroom at Hacienda Hideaway is officially complete. Before we get to the good stuff, let’s review how this space came together…
I think builders are going for some version of Mediterranean style…but in a very cheap 90’s way:
At some point, gray vinyl flooring was added to the original tiles. My soul aches.
The only thing going into this bathroom? Size I’m used to small bathrooms and this is the largest I’ve ever renovated.

Finals week was a blitz to end it all. More than 7 months later, the results are as follows!
This light fixture is a fun DIY I came up with a few days ago. Tutorial coming soon!
The microcement walls were definitely the most labor-intensive part of this renovation, but they brought a lot of rustic charm to the space that drywall just can’t replicate.
Notice the door? These are actually DIY using existing hollow core doors and I can’t wait to share the tutorial soon! Obsessed with their performance.
Bubble Up: Seven Inspiring Bathroom Designs
The door above leads to the bathroom (nothing new there, same tile floor and microcement walls), and an archway leads to the shower. It’s also very simple here:
These waffle weave Turkish towels are the most luxurious towels I have ever owned. I received a full set of olive towels with matching towels (use code for 15% off your order!)
It covers it all! I wonder who will be the first to break this tub…it could be you! 😉
You know I like a good budget set up and usually our projects are like that. However, even with a lot of DIY, this is definitely a high-end remodel by our standards. This was the most expensive bathroom renovation I’ve ever done, but it’s still on the low end of today’s typical bathroom renovations if you rent everything. Here’s the retail cost (our actual cost was lower, which I’ll share below!)

Our actual total price, after sponsorship discounts, was approximately $12,600. Note that the desktop line item is missing from the segment – this is sponsored and I don’t know the actual retail cost.
