My best suggestion for a high quality paint to paint bathroom cabinets would be to use an enamel or acrylic type of paint. Do not use latex paint on walls or furniture.
I love Fusion Mineral Paint (it’s an acrylic emulsion based paint) because its waterproof matte finish is so durable. I used this for my bathroom. I also really liked the color.

Tip: If you use a sanding sponge, I recommend using one that is slightly shallower (coarse) than you would normally use on a sander. For example, I would use 180 instead of 220, or 80-100 instead of 120. The sanding sponge has a softer back and seems to require a little more force to achieve the same smoothness as hard sandpaper. Plus, save sandpaper with these cleaners!
How To Paint Laminate Cabinets
The first step in painting a bathroom is to remove all hardware from drawers, doors and cabinets, leaving only the frame.
If you are replacing the hardware with a different size, fill the holes in the old hardware.
Then, if the cabinet is not very dirty, clean the frames, all doors and drawer fronts with a teaspoon or household cleaner. I try to limit how many chemicals and spoonfuls I use these days because it’s so strong and leaves a filmy residue that’s hard to remove completely.
After cleaning, polish the surface a little. The best bond requires a bit of sanding, so I don’t recommend skipping the sanding step. You want your paint to adhere as well as possible for long-lasting results and a perfect finish.

To polish, only the surface needs to be “polished”. It is not necessary to completely remove all previous stains and varnishes if the surface is not bleached or damaged. I use an 80-120 grit orbital sander and leave it as is. With 220, any corner can be sanded by hand.
If you want to completely smooth the surfaces of cabinets and drawers, there is a guide to filling the wood grain in furniture. In the case of matte blacks, the oak texture is usually not a problem.
Once everything is smooth, vacuum and wipe down all surfaces with a clean microfiber or lint-free cloth.

The color is Midnight Blue from Fusion Mineral Paints. The images above are the best reference for how the actual color will look in natural light. However, it looks dark (almost black) at night or in the shade. If you love navy, check out our article on the best navy and blue colors.
I usually don’t paint the inside of cabinets because it’s too much effort for me and heavy objects tend to scratch. Instead, I used good quality contact paper or coated the inside with a very durable clear coat to protect these areas.

Of course, humidity is an important factor in deciding which paint to use. Consequently, I would use an enamel or acrylic type of paint. Fusion Mineral Paint is an acrylic emulsion based paint, not like chalk or latex, and I never use it in the bathroom.

No The biggest misconception I see in painting is the idea that you have to sand between coats. Sanding is necessary if the paint is not as smooth as desired and you are looking for a smooth surface. Connect the paint for easy painting.
The paints I use usually don’t need a topcoat, except for high traffic areas like kitchen cabinets. If you decide to add a protective layer, read my recommendations to help you decide on the best furniture covers. Make sure it’s water based.

“Bathroom plaster looks elegant and classy, āāespecially in a small bathroom,” says designer Wendy Labrum. “Make sure it’s well-lit for subdued lighting, but don’t be afraid of rich colors.” Labrum chose Benjamin Moore’s Tempest as the plaster for this bathroom. It goes well with the dramatic veins of the marble counter and floor.
Paint the bathroom walls and ceiling olive green, as designer Roger Higgins did in this small space. “Deep colors add atmosphere and feel to the room,” she says. “Add a high gloss finish and it enhances the look even more.” For a similar look, try Olive by Little Greene.
As designer Linda Hayslett did for this small bathroom, try painting traditional beadboard glossy black and contrasting it with bright white on the top half of the wall. She chose the black beauty of Benjamin Moore to create a modern twist on a classic beadboard style. “People often think that black is too strong or that it shrinks the space, but in this case Black Beauty helped bring character and life to the space,” says Hayslett.
