If you have a bathroom without a window, you can look for some tricks to keep it clean and fresh. After years of contemplating my guest bathroom, new paint made way for it!

Best Paint Colors For Bathroom With No Windows

Almost every room in my house has at least some source of natural light. But two rooms – a small bathroom without a window – were difficult to renovate. My guest bathroom, for example, is functional; but because of the way it is closed, I don’t like to be there. And if I have another guest, I probably won’t. I thought this might be part of the resolution, but I’m tired and want to fix this immediately.

It took some trial and error, but with inspiration from the Clark+ Kensington 2020 Color Trends palette, I think I found it! If you encounter this problem (perhaps in a basement bathroom or basement), consider these tips as a solution without the convenience of lights and shortcuts for white and professional color. More details are below, but you can also see the changes in the video:

One of the first things you might notice in the previous photo is how purple the bathroom looks. Soft white light is common, of course, but when there are no windows in the room, you stop depending on the colors of the light. In this room, soft white does not work and leaves a shade of yellow

. I hate that every time I get something out (like that crap I’ve been patiently waiting to install) fire finds a way to destroy it.

I’m sure you’re probably thinking, “Why not change the lighting to bright or sunlight? I would, but you made a terrible choice. It’s getting harder and harder to find a light that doesn’t use a standard bulb – I like to choose new plug-ins, so it’s not arm twisting.

A few years ago I also installed a bathroom fan with Bluetooth and LED lighting. It makes it bluer than I like – not daylight – but it’s a step in the right direction

Obstacles from soft white lamps. I used this light to choose the color. See the difference with just the light switch? I love it. 😊

The existing walls are covered in fine gray and purple. It really is a beautiful color on its own…in the right room. But over time, I realized that this is not the right color for this bathroom. The fireplace, countertop, and tile work poorly with the accent, leaving everything sick and creepy. It’s amazing how color affects a home. Stopped any further creative design progress when I added color!

I say “partially covered” because I have completed the first paint job. After removing all the wallpaper from that place and fixing the dry wall, I had to do a little fixing of the old light fixture. I painted most of the room and ran out of patches, but I kept transforming. Word to the wise: if you cover a joint like this, be sure to seal it with a primer.

Painting – even if the new paint has a primer, as in the Clark+Kensington line. The main reason is because of what it is called

. A wall coated in this way is more durable than a finished or previously painted wall, so it is possible for the paint to absorb and disappear when the light hits the wall (one area appears duller, another or simply uneven). You may also need more coats for the yellow finish, so a primer is the best way to avoid this and cheaper than buying paint to apply another coat!

Earlier this year, Ace Hardware sent me a care package full of natural products (many of which I’ve never used before, but am excited to try) for inspiration. They also sent color swatches and information on Clark+Kensington’s 2020 Color Trends selection.

Looking at these inspired designs, I knew it would be a great opportunity to visit, as K says, “the bathroom where inspiration goes to die.” 😂

Tip: I can order my paint over the phone and pick up the paint at Ace Hardware the same day.

And let’s get to the specific color: It’s probably no surprise that as a home improvement blogger, I’m good at painting my walls.

I’ve also experimented a few times with different styles and color lines (sometimes it’s the same style but different colors). And yet many species have color

These days I have not found one that can do one coat without any gloss or touch up when there is a big change (like going from dark mauve to off white). I was expecting two coats and it actually needed two. But, not bad coverage, when there is only one, but:

When the second coat was dry, I took it back and examined it carefully. My main point about this line is that there is a big difference in

Other Clark+Kensington paint brands I have used in my bathroom before. I can’t tell the exact difference, but is it…butter? Velvet?

For example, it is recommended to use satin or high gloss in the bathroom. And since I have to do a lot of work to refinish an old wall, I don’t want to have a high gloss where I can see every little spot on the wall (win). Instead, I went for tuning; it’s better than satin and still cleans well for this room (I explain the trade-off between gloss and other benefits in this post if you want a little more info!). It’s the perfect balance. Hopefully you can see what a great impression it made on the wall in the next “after” photo in this post!

Ideas: Add Style To A Small Bathroom

I started by painting the whole house opal white. I love this color! I used an Ace Hardware gift card to buy a gallon, but I needed less than half to do two coats in the room. So, I made sure I had enough to paint the master bath with (after I left the shower there, I didn’t go back to finish the last job…procrastination paid off, ha!). I compared the colors in a bathroom (with no windows) to one with natural light (primarily) and they look the same in both situations. Highly recommended, especially since it is difficult to find a good balance with the white wall color (I don’t like “warm” white with yellow and purple, and not pure white that has a negative effect on the hospital). It is a good and simple white that is still warm because it plays with the cool green on part of the wall and does not take any blue, green or purple in the order.

I also used other natural home palettes as inspiration for color choices to create a small accent wall. Despite my fear that this room might be too small to work with such a painting, I’m glad I did it with my flair. The greens, blues and grays in the Color Trends palette led me to Far Land, which is a soft, dark green with hints of blue and lots of gray.

After the White Opal paint dried, I measured and measured the back wall pieces and tape to the newly painted areas. I don’t plan to keep the mirror (dust gets into those nice little parts of the frame, ugh), but it has a first aid kit attached, so I’m still looking for a replacement for it. Since I am

I left it blank, I measured 4 inches from the top so I could draw a line. There is no exact logic to this; I just thought the hole worked.
