Since we finished the pool last year, one of the projects we wanted to do was add a 1/2 bath to our home. We have been organizing and cleaning out the basement for the past few months. We are making progress but we still have a long way to go. Mark had a closet with his boxes stored there and we know the floor was already planned for a bathroom, but when he removed the shelves and removed some things, he opened up the storage area with the stove. It was there and allowed us to continue with the 1/2 bath project. We know that having a bathroom can be useful, especially for guests and family to cook and bathe. Climbing was not a good idea especially for our elderly parents and children.

We had our regular plumber come here a few months ago to service the AC and furnace, take a look in the basement and assure us that it is easily doable, adding plumbing. The pump goes into the ring you see on the top left and connects to the white pipes above. We were lucky enough to have our home builder add this basement for a full bathroom. That long bucket looks like it covers the hole where the shower or tub goes. We don’t want to add a shower, but the vanity and the toilet are important. Our plumber couldn’t fit us right now, so I got a tip from a reader of this site and we found a good guy who has the time to do this project. It came in at $2500 for labor (including the pump they provided) and we provided the vanity, faucet and toilet. I didn’t expect to do this. I know it won’t be pretty here. This is a storage area with a furnace, but I want to at least paint the walls and renovate the cement floor and make it feel good.

I painted the walls white using the exterior paint we had left and then bought a gallon of lighter blue paint. My goal when designing this temporary 1/2 bath was to keep everything nice, clean and new.

It’s not pretty, but I like how it turned out! It is perfect for what we need and I used a single folding screen which you can see below.

This is the result of painting the concrete walls white and the floor a clean gray. Everything is working well and we are happy with the results.

I bought the vanity and faucet at Lowes, one of the cheaper ones and I also bought my first toilet from Lowes. I added some rugs and some cushions that I placed around it. The toilet clip is from Amazon.

What Is A Half Bath Vs. Three Quarter Vs. Full?

This collection will be suitable for children and anyone visiting. It can also be a place to change clothes. The mirror rests on three 2×4s that plumbers installed and attached to the wall for the vanity. Because the vanity does not line up with the wall, it was great to lean against the mirror and lean against the back. You won’t see a 2×4 behind the blank.

This pump is installed on the upper part of the drawing and removes the waste from the pipe. They dragged the bucket down the drain so I looked for a solution to that and I really got creative.

I looked for metal or plastic 12 inch discs and made a gray plastic planter from Amazon. It was perfect to cover the hole and I used a hot glue gun to glue it down. He should keep his children away from him.

I’m actually going to add a little side table that I have on the counter and add something to throw behind this if people want to dress up.

I added a runner to the toilet and it was perfect with the little folding table I had.

I have two 6′ screens in the area that I can use as privacy screens and they work great! I work with a company called Coastway and they sent me these. They approached me and asked if I had any projects we could collaborate on and this came up. I bought something from them last year, a brown pool table and chairs and I really like it and they were a good price. So check out Coastway for great deals at affordable prices. These frames are made from a fiber material, so they’re not real or fake wicker, but they’re too strong for my needs and easy to install.

You can get 10% off anything on the website by using the code GSPKFTAN from the screen.

It would be great to cross this project off our list. We continue to work on getting the basement completely cleared, cleaned and organized. It feels so good there. We can finish the middle floor in some time, but there is no rush. My kitchen pantry is quite small so we are sure to love the extra storage and I have an abundance of pantry. It has all my Christmas decorations and decorations, all our extra paint, outdoor cushions stored over the winter, smoker, pressure washer, pool cleaner and a few other things. The basement is really cozy, and if we didn’t have it, we would have had more storage.

Should I Add A Second Bathroom?

After years of decorating my own home, I’ve learned a few tricks to creating a wine cellar on a budget. I hope you will join me! Of course, people want to add value to their home, but most of my clients want a bathroom that’s comfortable for their guests to use, but doesn’t intrude on anyone’s privacy. (Who wants their friends to see dirty clothes and prescription bottles anyway?)

Here are some guidelines on the size of a half bath and the best place to place it in your home.

Depending on the design of your home, there are many ways to add a half bath by carving out an existing floor plan space. Here are three options that have worked for my clients: an under-stairs bathroom, a built-in garage, and a custom dormer.

Other solutions I’ve used include putting a half bath in one large storage unit and dividing the master bathroom into a half bath and a smaller full bath.

Shower Installation Cost

No matter where you decide to put it, there are some important points to keep in mind when planning this common improvement project.

A half bath should include at least a toilet, sink and mirror. Having a place under the sink or other storage for toilet paper, hand towels, and soap is good, but if space is at a premium, these items can be stored elsewhere.

A half bath should not be large. If you have a space of 3 to 4 meters wide and 6 to 8 meters long in your house, you will have more space. A big half isn’t necessary, and it’s unlikely you’ll find “extra” unused space in your home.

Powder Room Ideas You’ll Love

Obviously, a half bath needs drainage and ventilation. For budget reasons, try to get your new half bath with the existing water and sewer connections as much as possible. One of the cheaper options is to install it where it can share a wall with the existing toilet.

For old houses built on walls or basements, new pipes can easily be installed below the main floor. But houses built on flat foundations require additional jackhammers and tapes to connect the pipes to the new site, which increases the cost of the project.

If possible, appliances including sinks should be connected to existing water lines. The good news is that since powder rooms are rarely used, you can choose more beautiful (and often attractive) settings.

Current codes require operable windows or interior ventilation
