It used to be a dark bathroom. This is a typical bathroom from the 1970s with all the accessories of the time. I can’t wait to renovate this bathroom and turn it into a beautiful place! This refresh brought it back to life and really shined!

Bathroom Decor Ideas: Luxury Bathroom In Simple Steps

The initial look I wanted for this bathroom was more of a modern farmhouse look, but the vanity really set the whole mood. Everything rustic modern was too big or too expensive, so I had to adapt my vision. I went back and forth (too many times…just ask my husband) what color I wanted in this bathroom. I’m a Libra, so I’m quite indecisive. I’m surprised it hasn’t killed me yet! I bought these tiles months before I renovated this bathroom, so they really dictated the whole design. I loved the heavy detailing on these tiles and knew the top half of the bathroom needed to be more solid and simple in style to create contrast.

Instead of matching black and white tiles, we offset them with dark gray on the walls. The paint color is Pepper by Sherwin Williams, an almost classic charcoal color. It’s dark enough to provide that kind of contrast, but it doesn’t darken the entire room like black does. My dad used to paint houses and when I chose this color all I could hear in my head was “Are you going to paint your bathroom black? Are you crazy? Luckily he liked the finished product.”

Now that we had decided on a dark charcoal color, I had to find a way to make this small bathroom look bright and clean. It turned out a ladder and a hat! We have a lot of boards and battens at home and my husband has now become an expert at installing them. Once you figure out its size and material, it quickly rises and becomes such a great statement piece. I made a grid panel and stretched a quarter of the wall to contrast with the dark charcoal color.

Did I mention my love for gold? Although I used black and white in this room, I knew I had to include gold. She has a way of making everything beautiful and looks great with black and gold. We have gold hardware and gold faucets in the kitchen next to the bathroom, so I thought it made the most sense to coordinate that. After much deliberation, I found this gold faucet that my husband and I agreed on and matched the other gold faucets in the room. However, gold can be difficult to match, especially when choosing items online, so be aware of that.

In addition to the gold faucets, I also needed a gold towel rack and a toilet paper holder. Sometimes choosing a particular finish can limit you, but we were able to find options we liked and chose a very simplistic, modern look for both. This reinforced hand towel also fits perfectly with the overall ambience of the bathroom.

Of course I also had to buy a matching toilet seat (husband thought I was crazy for saying it didn’t come in gold), but I found this one and love the fit and cohesion.

This vanity is the bane of my existence. I finally found this white valve that matches the base of the wall and the right style. We didn’t like the handles on the original cabinet (they were silver), so we replaced them with these thin gold handles that matched the other hardware. If not all of the details in a piece of furniture are what you want, this is an easy way to update a piece of furniture to make it look exactly the way you want it to.

The mirror must be of a certain size to fit over the sink and have enough space at the top for lighting. This mirror is perfect for that. Be sure to read the product description and measurements to make sure it will actually fit.

Apartment Bathroom Ideas That Are Beautiful And Useful

To keep this bathroom looking more chic, I chose a marble shelf with gold brackets (of course). They can withstand quite a bit of weight, and the double shelves above the toilet fill the space nicely. The trim pieces chosen were taller vertical pieces on the top shelf to draw the eye up and horizontal pieces on the bottom shelf to draw the eye up. Adding some greenery adds color to the room. Plus, fun items are always a great decoration. I like to add old books to stack things. Go to your local book donation site and repurpose the books they have by removing the covers and displaying the books themselves. This is an affordable way to incorporate books into your decor!

We don’t have a lot of wall space in our bathroom, so we chose a fun piece of framed art. I love the gold frame and the simple expression on the girl’s face. I don’t think my family liked it because they said they were being watched in the bathroom, but I loved it. Find interesting artwork and statement pieces.

I love the ceiling light I chose for this bathroom. It’s unconventional for a bathroom, but that’s why I love it. We have a higher ceiling in this room, so we were able to use a pendant that hung lower. I adjusted the chain it hangs on so it hangs at the right height. Choose items from home that make you smile. This definitely makes me smile every time I see it. The lamp above the mirror also complements the design of the ceiling lamp. Keep your lighting styles similar and coordinated to keep everything looking streamlined and connected.
