Covered Back Porch Ideas On A Budget

Covered Back Porch Ideas On A Budget – It’s been a while since we’ve been able to do a big DIY project. Since the pandemic, my husband George and I have largely put our household plans on hold. Seven months after the start of the pandemic, our commercial and financial situation is still uncertain. That being said, we also go home a lot and the dirt we see drives me crazy. So for my sanity, we decided to save a little money to restore our little back porch on a budget.

If you follow me on IG you know we recently built a chicken coop, it was a huge project that I forgot to blog about (so!), but that’s for another time. And speaking of the chicken coop, that was the real catalyst for the back porch makeover.

When we installed new siding a few years ago (has it been that long?!), we had to demolish our rotten back porch, so we’ve been living with mismatched brick and cinder blocks for a long time. The only problem is that our chicken coop is now right outside our back door. With the yard, we’ve been noticing dirt in the yard and shed for a few months now. I vacuumed several times a day.

The biggest expense was the pressure-treated lumber needed to build the structure. It is constantly exposed to the elements, so the boards had to be pressure treated. And pressure-treated wood isn’t cheap.

But, in addition to the doormat and the lamp, I was able to reuse old items that were scattered around our house or yard.

Saving money by recycling is good and sustainability is one of my values. So I did some little DIYs on a budget for this little back porch. I simply took two broken cement blocks, spray painted them, placed a spare board on top, and built a factory stand. I had the chairs on hand, but I transplanted some plants.

We bought the furniture a long time ago. He needed to go to the bathroom, but it didn’t feel right. I cleaned it and sprayed it with a clear matte spray paint to prevent further rust.

Now we use the closet to store the chickens and some plant tools like fertilizer and pruning shears.

Eventually the factory stand was left here by the previous owners. I spray painted it and added the bucket and plant.

Since I like transparency and am curious to know how much bloggers charge for these big DIY projects, here are the details.

Is this more than you expected from a budget-friendly DIY project? To be honest, it was more than I expected. But I managed to update almost every style or storage solution, so I’m proud of that. Pursuit is important to me because it is environmentally friendly. And I think everything on the porch is beautiful and most importantly, the porch and tent keep my house clean!

I hope you are all safe and well. Thank you for allowing me to share a project that I am very proud of.
