It’s a great way to make a small bathroom feel bigger while still providing functionality. I chose the Silkroad Exclusive 36 inch vanity for my basement bathroom. It contains both open and closed cabinets, but is “lighter” than a fully enclosed laundry cabinet.

Also, if you are designing a walk-in shower, choose a glass shower over a fully tiled walk-in shower. Even if it’s only partially, like a basement shower. If you use a shower curtain, design it to hang from floor to ceiling.

, Leave the shower open when not in use. conclusion? To make a room appear larger, leave things open and allow ventilation.

Does your small bathroom have natural light? If so, that’s great, and you can get a little more creative with the paint colors, but if not, I know everyone’s tendency is to go with bright white. Resist the urge to paint your windowless bathroom white, like the ceiling section used to be. It will end up looking dull and boring. Choose colors with a higher LRV.

It’s not white. I prefer neutral tones in this type of room. Like a warm beige shade of a basement bathroom. It’s called Kilim Beige by HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams, available at Lowe’s. Walls and ceiling are also painted.

This works well with small or medium tiles such as the Emser Carrara Subway Marble Tile. Instead of placing tiles horizontally, place them vertically along the wall. The linear movement upwards draws the eye towards the ceiling, making the space appear larger and larger. This is an easy design trick that only requires a little planning.

Adding attention-grabbing elements such as stunning plumbing fixtures, custom vanities, patterned tiles, woodwork, wallpaper, beautiful artwork or impeccable details will automatically draw attention to your small space, not just the space itself. Making a small bathroom more special or interesting is a great way to use a small space and give it a special feel without requiring extra square footage. Small spaces are the perfect place for creativity, courage and trying new things. For the guest bathroom vanity, we experimented with a vintage-look Kohler black toilet seat and Delta brass.
