Paint Color For Small Bathroom No Windows – Over the past few months, I have been helping my father decorate the second floor of his house. Before we got it, it was a vacant space in need of paint, furniture, and personality.
My dad remodeled this bathroom when he bought the house, and the new decor is stunning: marble floors, white tile walls, a large white tub, and a modern vanity. The bathroom is not small at all, it feels quite big. However, the design seems a bit bland.

I immediately realized that the white walls were incompatible with the other design elements in the space. So a fresh paint color will be my first priority.

Since this is a windowless bathroom, choosing the best paint color can be a little tricky. Natural light is very helpful in determining the correct paint color.
Contrary to popular belief, bright white is not a great choice for windowless spaces as it can make the room feel cold and dark.
I prefer medium or dark tones to create a warm atmosphere, like the dark green paint on our basement bathroom walls. I also recommend avoiding colors that are too light or bright as they only look harsh under artificial light.
In the adjoining guest room I was accompanied by Benjamin Moore “Boothberg Gray.” It is a medium color that reads as a light grayish blue. I wanted the color of the guest bathroom to complement this and make it feel like a relaxing, spa-like retreat.

I chose a darker color than Boothbay Grade. I prefer dark colors to create a cozy and intimate atmosphere in a small room. Now the space is stark white, with marble floors and walls. Adds contrast and elegance.
In a room without windows, dark paint will absorb light instead of reflecting it. It completely changes the atmosphere of the room. It makes the space more welcoming and fills you with color. However, we need to increase the ambient lighting of the room (which I will discuss later).
Since I knew I wanted a paint color that complemented Boothbay Gray, I first looked at the other colors in the paint swatches next to it.
I didn’t have a specific paint sample on hand, but I looked up the paint code for Boothbay Gray and it is HC-165. You can then search for nearby colors (HC-164 or HC-166) to see if they match your design. This is a great tip that will save you the hassle of searching for paint color inspiration at the paint store.

I also recommend visiting the paint manufacturer’s website to find the colors they offer next to your specific color. I made this for “Boothbay Grey” and immediately fell in love with the “Night Train” pictured above.

I rarely choose a paint color without painting a swatch on the wall. Here are some tips on this important step in the paint color selection process…
Here are the colors I tested. I painted it Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray (the color of the adjacent bedroom that will be painted) to make sure the winning color would complement this one. I think all three colors would work well with the bluish-gray tones of Boothbay Gray.

When I first painted these colors I didn’t know which one was the winner. They all look great in space. But when I painted them next to the dresser, I realized which one I liked better.
Since the color of the dresser will remain the same, I didn’t want to choose a color that matched it. Instead, I wanted it to be a little darker. I chose a medium color (“Brewster Grey”). The green tint of the top color is a little too harsh compared to the gray paint on the dresser, while the bottom color seems too muddy and gray compared to the sharpness of the dresser.
I think Brewster Gray would be a good choice for the wall color in this room. It has a blue hue that matches elements of the adjacent living room. This will serve as the perfect backdrop for the other elements of the space.
Now that I have the paint color figured out, let’s move on to the design plan for the rest of the space. We will keep all the basic elements of the room (dressing table, mirror and toilet). Here’s my plan for adding warmth and style.

In the photo above you can see the long white wall on the right side of the room. This towel rack doesn’t work (sorry dad) so I suggest you remove it.
Next, we add the wood wall treatment. You know I’m a big fan of this because I’ve done almost every style in my own home. We have shiplap, picture frame moldings, dividers and dividers, shiplap and more. I knew a boat tie would be too earthy for my dad’s style, so I switched back and forth between picture frame styling and wood paneling and tile.
Since the attached guest room is going to be in an Art Deco style, I thought picture frame molding would be the best choice for this bathroom. This is a stylish way to spice up a small space and will add energy and personality to the room.
I came up with the idea of molding chair rails and picture frames into the base of the wall with wallpaper on top. However, due to the bathroom’s wall partitions and corners, I thought ceiling molding would be the best option for this room.
Best Colour Schemes For A Small Bathroom
Currently, my dad’s bathroom only has ambient lighting with cool-toned bulbs. That’s not flattering and one of the reasons this bathroom fell apart.
Every room needs at least 2-3 light sources, so I recommend adding this gold box to the mirror. You can read more about my lighting rules in this blog post. When in doubt, add more lighting fixtures in areas with little natural light.
I prefer mixing metals (like lighting) and I recommend using 2-3 metal finishes in a room and I explain why in this blog.
Today’s lamps are all silver chrome, which is very cool. Adding some gold accents to your bathroom will help warm up the space. We’ll keep the faucet and tub hardware the same, but create a new gold towel ring, gold handles on the vanity, and various gold accessories. These small exchanges will make a huge difference.

You’ll also notice that in the source list below, I selected all gold hardware/accessories from the same retailer, West Elm. This is because brass and gold can come in different shades. I always recommend purchasing them from the same retailer so you know the color and finish will match.

With the basics out of the way, it’s time to get down to the fun stuff: decor and accessories. Those cool marble floors are in desperate need of a nice rug. I would choose this to fill in the space and add color and texture to the floor.
I’m also really excited about this wooden towel rack that fills the long wall space. Wood is always a good idea to add warmth to a cold space, and this wood can warm things up while adding functionality.

We also opted for wooden shelves above the toilet. I love the curves of this one and the rattan is great.
I ordered all the furniture for the guest room and loft. A professional artist also began creating the pieces. I’m considering a DIY project for the loft (I can’t wait to try a new wood wall treatment), so I’ll keep you posted when these spaces come together.
