Bathroom Color Ideas With Dark Wood Cabinets – Bathroom design trends change just like trends in the rest of the home. When investing in a bathroom renovation, how do you find the balance between being current but not too shabby? It’s also important to be able to live with the design you choose. Color is a great way to liven up a modern space. It can be easily changed and you can add color to the whole room or add an accent color.
Neutrals are always a reliable choice, but they don’t have to be boring. If your bathroom design has low natural light, this could be the color scheme for you. Combining grays, creams, and whites with bold local accent tones makes the room feel like a Harrison Township bathroom design. Or choose a cool gray shade to achieve an elegant and modern look. Try this year’s funky tones on towels, rugs and accessories to accentuate your neutral base color. Warm wood, brick and greenery are also on trend this year and work really well with neutral colors.

Neutrality brings us to the warm shade of 2019, yellow. Consider an accent wall, tiles or paint the room your favorite yellow color to brighten your mood. Whether you opt for dim or bright, consider what kind of lighting you have and what will enhance your design and your mind.

Pink is a big hit this year, and for lovers of neutral tones, it’s a perfect opportunity to change colors by adding pink as an accent color. Coral goes well with gray and dark pink that never ends with white. If you don’t want to go all pink, add pink towels, pillows or other small things to your room.
The trend of black walls and wood is moving from living rooms and kitchens to bathrooms. Dark tones add richness and depth and look stunning with white furniture. Stick to matte paint for walls and wood to reflect light. Brass hardware works well with dark cabinets. Gold shower heads complement elegant black tiles that disappear quickly. Black enamel and polished nickel fittings with white enamel are very popular.
Introducing green accents with plants and accessories is always popular. Light green next to cream tones is perfect for decorating a bathroom in country style. Dark green walls or cabinets should contrast with pure white or the room will look large. If you want to be bold with green, you can always paint or tile half the wall. There’s even an updated bathroom in pistachio green, so if you like this retro look, make sure you’re happy with the length!
Blue is often used in bathroom design as a nautical and calming option. The key is to have the right shade. Bring in dark tones mixed with white details to refresh the old look in a well-lit room. Travel from traditional pale blue to navy blue and royal blue for a contemporary take on the bathroom. Incorporate these blues into oddly shaped tiles to make the right impression.

It’s not just about the hair anymore, ombre walls are big this year. It is not at all difficult to gradually bring the color to a lighter color. Add white paint to the color of your choice while lining the wall and blend with a sponge for a trendy ombre effect.
A well-designed bathroom is always complemented by carefully selected accessories. Choose towels, rugs, candles and vases to tie into a new color scheme and really complete your bathroom makeover.

Painting the girls’ toilet is something that has been on my to-do list for years, but other projects have always taken precedence, saving me from getting it done. While our master bathroom is currently a work in progress, my daughter’s bathroom was the only bathroom untouched. I finally decided to put this project at the top of my to-do list and finish it before my oldest daughter gets home from college. Now I’m mad that I didn’t do this years ago because it made a huge difference in the look and feel of the space! By using the right paint and painting tools, you’ll never know it’s DIY and not a professionally done job.
It doesn’t look too intimidating from a distance, but the black cabinets along with the dark fixtures gave the room a really dark feel. And if you look closely, the closet doors are in a warm row with many clothes from the previous owners:

With one coat of paint, the right tools, and a little DIY action, make my newly painted girls’ bathroom brighter and brighter!
Although it may seem like a daunting project with the right tools and know-how, even a novice DIYer can do it. If this is a project you’ve been considering, this post will give you step-by-step instructions on how to do it! We left…
The first step is to remove the doors and drawers along with all the hardware, leaving the rest as a frame:
Be sure to take photos or notes and label the furniture you’ve removed so you know what’s going back when it’s time to put your space back together.

Most people paint in their basement or garage, but unless there’s a ton of sanding involved, I like to set up shop somewhere with natural light and a TV 🙂 (I don’t mind a little paint if I can – drink. – Watch while Netflix is on!). My place is a bonus room at the top of the stairs because there is a lot of space to use. I put a drop cloth on the floor and set up a folding table covered with another drop cloth on which I placed all the cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
Preparation is important, and it starts with cleaning all the surfaces you will paint. Even if your cabinet doors don’t look dirty, you’ll be surprised how well they clean! There are different products you can use, but I use a small amount of TSP substitute. Using a clean cloth dampened with the solution, scrub all exposed areas thoroughly (don’t forget gloves and eye protection).
If you want to replace the cabinet hardware and the new furniture is in a different place than the old one, now is the time to fill the old holes. I pushed wood filler into the holes on both sides and removed the excess filler:
If you have nectar or leftovers in your cabinets, fill them up as well. After the wood filler has dried, sand the filled holes, nicks and scratches:
How To Choose Bathroom Paint Colors
Sometimes you will find that the holes in the hardware need a second coat of wood filler to completely smooth the sand. Also lightly sand (I use 220 grit sandpaper) all the surfaces you are painting, the frame, doors and drawers. Sanding is an important step for primer and paint adhesion, especially when your cabinets are as shiny as mine:
After everything is sanded, turn off the sanding powder and wipe all surfaces with a clean microfiber cloth. I finish the preparation by wiping all surfaces with a liquid gloss remover to remove any remaining dust particles and ensure good adhesion of the primer and paint.
The next step is to clean it up and turn it into a binding model. Since my bathroom sink was previously painted and coated with gloss polyurethane, I chose Sherwin-Williams Extreme Bond Primer, which is formulated to adhere to surfaces. It really sticks to everything – I highly recommend it! by the way, I’ve used it several times and it’s a great choice! I start by turning the back and sides of the empty door and the door that stands on its four legs, lifting it off the table I was drawing on. Once it’s done well, I turn the door over to paint the front using a brush and roller combination.
Having the right tools makes a big difference for this step and all the other steps in this project. If you’re guilty of spending days thinking about paint but grabbing the nearest brush and roller off the shelf to apply it, think twice about your next painting project. Investing in high-quality tools will protect you
