Giuseppe Candela, (Joe), owner of GCFooring, has been in the tile business for over 15 years. He was born in Sicily, Italy and has always been fascinated by the famous buildings and architecture of his country. When he arrived in the United States, he followed his dream of opening his own flooring company and began his ventures in Southwest Florida. A few years later he met his future wife Lisette.

Lizette Candela, a biology major with a background in real estate and design, partnered with Giuseppe to expand GCFlooring. Together they created their loving family business for over 10 years. They work with many of the prestigious builders in Southwest Florida. Their team has installed in many restaurants, homes and commercial buildings in the area and their love for this craft shows through their meticulous craftsmanship and professionalism. Giuseppe and Lizette take the time to personally hire each installer for the team and are dedicated to each project as if it were their own. For them, laying the floor is not a job, it is an art.

We want our space to reflect who we are, be practical and feel like home. Today’s bathrooms are hardly just a place to satisfy the needs of the body, but more of a place to relax where you can treat yourself to a warm bath after a long day at work. Fortunately, thanks to innovations in the bathroom flooring industry, it is easy to strike a balance between usability and appearance. Most floor products currently available on the market stand up well to the rough treatments we go through in our bathrooms every day. They can tolerate constant water splashes, heavy chemical spills and fight blemishes without having to sacrifice their beautiful appearance. To help you decide which floor to choose for your bathroom, we offer an overview of the most popular options.

The stone is as popular as it was a few centuries ago. The latest trends in the bathroom have not only the floor, but also the walls, giving the whole room a simple and timeless look.

Natural stone is known for its durability and variety. Stone floors generally come in two forms, polished or unpolished. A polished stone floor is a beautiful addition to any bathroom, but it tends to be slippery and should be used with special care in families with young children or the elderly. As an alternative to polished stone floors, sanded and textured stone floors offer a better grip, but due to their rough surface, they may require a sealer to avoid staining. Typically, stone floors come pre-cut into 12-inch square tiles or larger and require a strong substrate for installation. Unlike soft floors, stone is cool to the touch. If you’re not much for slippers, you may want to consider alternative flooring options for your bathroom.

Vinyl is definitely the favorite flooring product of this decade. The days of cheap sheets that look like wood and stone are long gone. Luxury vinyl flooring offers all the advantages of man-made products and is hardly distinguishable from any natural material. Vinyl floors are wear-resistant, waterproof and can be installed over underfloor heating. Because of their foamy feel, they are much more comfortable to walk on than stone floors.

There are two types of vinyl flooring, tiles and sheets. Vinyl sheets come in 6- or 12-foot-wide rolls, providing a seamless appearance. Vinyl tiles, on the other hand, are usually 12 to 18 inches square and are easier to install—a big advantage for those who want to install the floor themselves.  Vinyl tiles, like sheets, are available in wood and stone effects, as well as a range of exciting, dynamic patterns.

Interior Projects And Design Work

Many people think that choosing a wood floor for a potentially flooded space is far from sensible. However, the opposite is true.  With engineered hardwood flooring and its improved properties over solid wood flooring, splashing water is less of a nuisance. The cross structure of engineered wood makes each board 80% better against water than a solid hardwood board.

Engineered hardwood floors are stable and less likely to shift in wet conditions than regular wood floors. They also tend to be a more suitable option than laminate, as the latter tends to swell and pool as water seeps through the seams. Even engineered hardwood with its improved water resistance requires proper care to live up to its promise. Leaving wet bath mats and towels on the floor or not drying the water can detract from the appearance of your floor and even shorten its life. Therefore, it is not recommended for families with younger children who may be less careful when it comes to cleaning up spills. If a wooden look is something you’re desperate for in your bathroom, there are plenty of alternatives that perfectly mimic the texture and pattern of wood.

Rubber floors are perfect for families with younger members who are looking for a floor that can handle any challenge. Rubber is durable, easy to clean and can withstand constant water splashes. It is soft and comfortable to walk on, even with bare feet. Textured finish prevents slipping. Although if this does happen, the case will be softened by the rubber, which is also an excellent shock absorber. Available in almost any color, pattern or texture, it’s a design-savvy bathroom flooring choice.
