California Modern Interior Design Bathroom – Yep, another before and after, this time it’s our master bathroom! (Resources are shared at the end of the post)
Our master bathroom was the highlight of our complete home renovation. Aside from the bran (which we held off on to save money, but I liked the warm oaky vintage look), it was a full gut.

To recap, we knocked down the wall separating the shower/toilet room from the rest of the space to make room for a large, luxurious shower. Step, washboard will be removed. Also had to have pink carpet, pink rugs, pink tiles and pink wallpaper (wowza)! Other notable changes were the removal of the ubiquitous carpeting and floor-to-ceiling mirrors…see photos below.

One of my favorite aspects of the new design is the vertical lines that highlight the vertical tile in the shower. Statuario marble… it’s hands down my favorite thing in our house! I also love how the herringbone pattern turns into the floor. And, of course, the private bath with its beaded chandelier, both in front of the bay window, is a highlight and a focal point. I want you to see and feel the natural light in the morning. It’s magical!
A combination of warm and cool neutral tones, as well as old and new, makes this bathroom organic and interesting. It really is a haven for us, we loved it so much.
We completed this renovation over two years ago! Fortunately, most of the products we used are still available, with a few exceptions. Today was a very fun day because I have to say “Great, I’m working in a beautiful bathroom about 2000 miles away”.
Friends, isn’t technology great? I worked for ten years at a high-end residential design firm where I worked on kitchen and bathroom designs every day. But this only applies to people visiting our office in person from the West Michigan area. But for the past three years, I’ve worked with Postbox Designs exclusively on electronic interior design.

That’s why I work with clients all over the country using technology. Because it’s online interior design, I can pay a fraction of what I would have learned as a traditional interior designer. But why? Because I can be more efficient because I don’t spend hours in meetings going all over town to get samples. Double win.
When this wonderful client came to me from California and asked if I could help her remodel her bathroom, I knew 2,000 miles would be no problem. And guys, I have to tell you…my client has amazing taste.
Her dream bathroom has a casual California vibe that’s understated and understated. Whenever I work with a new client, I send them a welcome package to get a sense of their style and budget. One of the biggest tools I use is their Pinterest board. A picture is worth a thousand words. So, to create her bathroom, we started with this inspiration photo as item #1 on the mood board below:
When I think of “California Casual” as a design style…I think of all the reasons why California is a destination state. It has a relaxed, casual look, but is sleek and beautiful. My client knew he wanted cerus oak cabinets and lots of marble. So I helped her create a custom ornament (not shown) inspired by verse #9 on a mood board covered in Calcutta Gold marble slabs. A mix of traditional, elegant fixtures like his faucets (No. 12) are mixed with simple, casual items like his hardware (No. 5) and Pottery Barn (No. 7) metal mirrors.

I think one of the highlights of their new California bathroom makeover is their new giant shower. This is complemented by gold Calcutta subway tiles (No. 11) and polished nickel plumbing fixtures (No. 2). Her shower design (not shown) will be similar to image #10 in the mood board above.
I was starting to get a little dizzy (so I’m going to take a deep breath here), but I was thrilled when I found the exact chandelier (#6) from her inspiration photo (#1). ). With a beautiful chandelier above the private bath (#4)…

I think the trick to not being too fussy or too fancy when designing your bathroom is to really mix the two styles with your bathroom design. We mixed elegant traditional pieces like her chic stools (#25), faucets (#27), and mirror (#22) with rustic touches like her sconces (#23) and bathroom side table (#17). ). Not only did they have room for double ornaments, but they also had separate ornaments for it. I inspired an image from her Pinterest (#21) and then we selected items to create a similar but unique look.

For this bathroom remodel, my client purchased my Just Finished Room Package, and I helped her design the bathroom with every element and finish. As part of the suite of rooms, I will include several options. I sent him version #1 and asked for his feedback and thoughts. We then made a few changes to narrow the design down to her perfect casual California bathroom! A variety of lamps (#2), mirrors (#7), and faucets (#12) provide a similar look, but closer to her dream look.
We also swapped in a few more designs, like another runner (#20), a reshaped mirror (#22), and another chair (#25). When you have specific items to look at, it’s easier to feel confident about making changes than when you don’t know where to start.
Finally, my client has great taste, which made my job easier! If I ever make it to California, maybe they should kick me out of the bathroom and stop pretending to be mine 🙂
