Jess loves to share her beautiful designs for her master bathroom and bedroom, and how she did it. Create a luxurious look on a limited budget

This Reno has been a long time coming. After doing a few flips, we purchased what we thought would be our largest flipper yet. But very quickly (and very unexpectedly) I became pregnant with our first child and our plans… ahhhhh….changed a bit!!

Five years later, here we are, doing the renovation we dreamed of. Our 2 bedroom fiberglass cottage on the beaches of North Sydney has been converted into a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom family home.

Quick And Easy Small Bathroom Décor Ideas

On a small block and planning to keep the house on one level, I had a bathroom dilemma. Do we have a very large family bathroom? OR do we have a medium sized main bathroom and a small bedroom? For me the answer was not that difficult. I wanted two bathrooms and I know the plans to make them work!

For our master bathroom, I definitely wanted a large shower and a large tub. After a long time of lack of storage space, it was also high on my priority list.

The main bathroom measures only 2500 x 2500 mm. And then the 2500 x 1500 mm. So how do I fit it in without feeling pressure? Well… read on for the plans

First, I needed a long bath that felt luxurious, but not insanely wide. The Highgrove bathroom had this. They stock a budget-friendly acrylic tub called the “Alder” with a slim frame measuring just 780 wide. Although narrower than most freestanding pools, the thin edge of this pool makes the interior space LARGE!!!

I chose a wet room for my shower. Rather than making something custom, Highgrove also stock frameless glass screens for a fraction of the cost of making something custom – no worries for me and my tight budget.

For my current storage solution, I purchased 2 750w x 1100h cabinets and installed them side by side to make it look like one big long cabinet. Again, this saved me batteries as I could buy them straight from the store.

To save space I bought my first combination in a wall tank/floor boiler. Highgrove has good affordable wall-mounted toilets. I used the “Ollie”, which cuts 150mm back into the wall to the depth of a standard toilet. This isn’t just my first in a wall tank. It is also my first “rimless” toilet…

Yes, I know, I can’t believe I’m so excited about this! But hey, I’m the main cleaner in this house and anything that makes my cleaning job easier is a win for me. With a rimless pan there is no room for mold and gunk. I will also mention the incredible thing: this bathroom has no “shelves” at the bottom. I’m not even kidding – this is called a “poo board.” Yes, you heard me! I almost fell over when I heard this term. But that doesn’t mean any major layoffs, so you know what to expect down the road. Another victory for the cleaner!

Small Modern 3/4 Bath

I also needed to find a stone vanity to match my custom vanity. When I was looking for my bathroom accessories, I saw these from Highgrove Bathroom. They are sold in 50mm and 100mm increments. And I discovered that if you can get away with not cutting something to size, it will save you a lot. Highgrove drilled and tapped the holes for my bathtub where I wanted them. I was able to combine the marble top with a matte white bowl above the countertop from the “Eden” series and I love it.

I chose the brushed bronze software from the “Spin” series and am very happy with the combination. Along with a “Moason” rain shower head and a floor-mounted bath filler, I opted to install a handheld shower head for both. The devices are so useless. I use it in the bath to wash the children’s hair. In the shower I was the dog. And best of all, they are excellent for cleaning the shower and bath. I wouldn’t want to be without a laptop!

My ensuite is adjacent to the main bathroom and is 2500 x 1500mm. I worked if you have something good why do you change it? So I kept the same layout for our bathroom as our master bathroom – minus the tub. Actually, I’ve used this layout before in a renovation and I find it to be the best use of tight space. I used the same tap work, so there’s not much to talk about here.

Like I said, I could save thousands by buying regular sized items from the store. So now… let’s quickly define the word “saved”. What I actually mean is ‘redistribution’.

Common Bathroom Floor Plans

I used the savings to install underfloor heating in the two bathrooms. And I can tell you, as someone who has never experienced underfloor heating: taking a shower on a cozy heated floor in the middle of winter is the real bomb! And it’s actually quite cheap. It cost about $600 per bathroom and I installed it myself. The kits are so easy to make yourself that almost anyone can put them together and have them ready for a qualified baker to make the connection.

My “benefit allowance” really allowed me to spend a lot of money on some of my tiles. On the less visible walls I used cheap old white matte tiles measuring 300 x 600. On the other walls I opted for those small Italian subway tiles called “Albert Park” from Tilecloud. They were the most expensive item in the entire bathroom reno, but every time I look at them they make my heart sing.

So finally, after a few long months of living in a construction zone, we finally have a bathroom. If you need me in the evening, you can find me in my new bathtub, enjoying a drink of your choice!!

In fact, it’s not like that at all. I spend my time with my ears submerged trying to block out the sound of “MuuuUUUuuuuM.” We can only dream of lasting peace????

I’ve visited enough homes over the years to see that designing and installing a bathroom seems to be a tough nut to crack for many American production builders. Oddly shaped rooms; angular bath, toilet, shower; and generally places that are just plain strange – these all seem to be signs of poorly designed toilets.

When designing a dining room (new construction or renovation), there are many rules to follow for the layout of the dining room. So, out of selfless interest in making the American bathroom a little better, read up on some basic rules of bathroom design.

Side note: This post covers the basics of designing a single-family bathroom. Let’s look at the bathroom with shower (¾ bath), or bathroom with bath (full bath), or even a combination of both. Bathrooms with only a toilet and sink, also called ladies’ toilets, are a completely different story and are not covered by this post. Furthermore, bathrooms in multi-family buildings (such as apartments) are a completely different story due to accessibility rules. (If you want to know more about this, let us know. We’ll be happy to explain it to you in a new post!)

This is the good old “three in a row” toilet we’ve all seen. It’s about 40 square feet (5′ x 8′) and here are the basic rules for how it works.

. There is efficiency in the cost of plumbing because all the plumbing is on one wall. However, this efficiency comes with the disadvantage that the space is not special and that space is limited. However, it is a classic and still a bathroom powerhouse. And – wow – I just typed the phrase “bathroom powerhouse” – me
