Small Back Porch Ideas On A Budget – It’s been a while since we’ve been able to do a big DIY project. Since the pandemic, my husband George and I have put most of our home projects on hold. Seven months into the pandemic, our business and financial situation remains uncertain. However, we are also home a lot and the trash we see drives me crazy. So, for the sake of my sanity, we decided to save a little money to restore our back patio on budget.
If you follow me on IG you know that we recently built a chicken coop, that was a big project that I forgot to blog about (d’o!), but that’s for another time. And speaking of the chicken coop, that was the main catalyst for our back porch renovation.

When we put in new siding a few years ago (that’s how long ago?!), we had to take out our back patio, so we’ve been living with uneven brick/concrete blocks for a long time. The only problem is that our chicken coop is now outside our back door. With the yard, we have been seeing dirt in the yard for the past few months. I vacuum several times a day.

The biggest expense comes from the pressure-treated lumber needed to build the structure. It is constantly exposed to air, so the board must be pressure treated. And pressure treated wood isn’t cheap.
But besides doors and lamps, I can reclaim old items lying around our house or yard.
Saving money by recycling is a good thing and sustainability is one of my values. So I made some little DIYs on a budget for this little back patio. I simply took two broken cement blocks, spray painted them, attached additional boards and made a factory stand. I have a chair, but I put some plants.
We bought that cabinet a long time ago. He needed to go to the bathroom, but it was inconvenient. I cleaned it and sprayed it with clear matte spray paint to prevent further rust.

We now use a chicken storage rack and some plant equipment such as manure and garden shears.

Is this more than you expected from a budget DIY project? Honestly, it was more than I expected. But I can update almost any style or storage solution, so I’m proud of that. Sustainability is important to me because it is environmentally friendly. And I think everything looks beautiful on the terrace and most importantly, the terrace and awning keep my house clean!
