I’m back today with more bathroom excitement – a look at my mom’s master bathroom with her new freestanding tub! Two years ago we renovated the space, removed the clutter and added a little more of her feminine style. This was fine for a while, but my mom really wanted to update the whole room. She didn’t like the tiles on the floor or in the shower and it annoyed her every day. She finally realized that she was living with something that bothered her and she promised to change it as soon as possible.

Before we get to the after shots, let’s take a look at the before photos and the design plan of the room.
Here’s a look at the “before.” This is the space before we were refreshed by our own vanity. My mom didn’t like a simple mason jar vanity, let alone a double sink when she didn’t need one.
Here it is with the modernized vanity. It was much better, but the rest of the room wanted a change.
Isn’t this incredible? Hexagonal tile floors, dark brown tiles throughout the room and a stand alone bath…dammit! The place really feels like a hotel when you enter it and my mother is very happy with how it turned out. Let’s go into the details.

I have to say, I am most jealous of her new freestanding bathtub. I’m a huge spa fan and would probably use this every night if this was my home! There used to be an outdated hot tub there, and when we realized that a freestanding tub could fit in its place, we were both very excited. My mom isn’t a big fan of baths either, but she was bathing thanks to this gorgeous new bath!
We chose black wall hardware and it goes well with the dark brown tiles and the white bathroom.
I like the shape of the bathtub because it is very simple. The vanity has so much detail and I didn’t want this bathroom to compete with it. On the contrary, it is simply beautiful, elegant and BIG!
I bought my mom this special tub for Mother’s Day to use here and I think it works well. Wood adds warmth and complements a wooden vanity. In addition there is room for a glass of wine!
Small Bathroom Ideas To Maximise Your Space
We chose this gorgeous brass chandelier for the bathtub and wow it adds so much space. This brightens things up but also brings a bit of glamor to the room.
I love how the capiz sinks on this chandelier complement the capiz mirror in her guest bathroom. It’s all about repeating elements throughout the house to make everything look cohesive.
One really smart addition was the addition of a lip next to the freestanding bathtub. Not only is it a nice place to put a glass of water or a bottle of shampoo, but it’s also the perfect place to have fun with some art and accessories. We simply had the contractor add a piece of wood directly on top of the tiles and paint it the same color as the walls (Benjamin Moore’s Foggy Mist). Originally we wanted to make a wooden shelf, but between the tub and the sink, the part of the room where the wood is seemed a little heavy.
In terms of art, we knew we had to go further to fill this huge space. (The ceilings here are 10 feet!) My mom ordered the print on the left from Juniper Print Shop at 24×36 and then bought this smaller piece from Minted at 18×24. We used inexpensive black frames from Target to create these. I always say that every room needs a little black, so I’m glad we chose black for the frames.

The plant on the wooden sconce is fake because it has no windows, and the other is a pothos plant that usually grows in my mother’s living room. I’m trying to find a good faux claw plant to replace it and I’ll let you know if I find something that looks realistic!
