Laundry Room Decorating Ideas On A Budget

Laundry Room Decorating Ideas On A Budget – One room I miss in our old house is the laundry room. The DIY laundry room makeover we did in this small space was revolutionary in both design and functionality. Without further ado, let me introduce you to our renovated laundry room.

When we finally started working on the laundry room, I was dying for open shelving. In fact, I think that’s what started the whole project, a

Shelf malfunctions. I put so many things in the original cabinets that an avalanche of laundry supplies fell on me every time I opened the door for a light bulb, dog treats, or a red Solo cup. After one particular avalanche, when I was sitting on a nasty laminate floor in the middle of a pile of red Solo cups, I vowed to A) make the laundry room my next big house project and B) stop hiding the red Solo cups. We are not inside

Take a look at our old laundry room. Isn’t he a seeker? Don’t lie, I know this is the laundry room you’re looking for. I’ll stop when you pin this to your laundry room inspiration board on Pinterest.

Some of my favorite features in this old laundry room (note the sarcasm) are the old metal cabinets from 1971, the old top-loading washer that holds the clothes, the energy-efficient dryer, the black plastic paneling with the matching yellow wallpaper, the ruffled curtains. blocks all natural light and oh you have to see the floors! Let me show you.

Laundry Room Ideas To Make This Space A Joy

It’s not exactly the most inspiring place to work. And this from someone who likes to do laundry. Like the love of doing laundry. I never found anything in the old metal cabinets because they were full of different things. I always lose clean laundry behind the washing machine. At least the room has a door so we can keep it shut and not see the laundry area.

Our small laundry room is located in the kitchen. There was a brief moment when we thought about removing it to make our kitchen bigger and move the laundry to the other side of the kitchen, but we learned that the kitchen is actually more than adequate for our needs. Instead, we decided to do a budget-friendly laundry room renovation that worked within the current footprint.

Another benefit of having a laundry room in the kitchen is access to the sink. While I love a big, beautiful laundry room with its own sink or vanity, it’s not the only option for such a small space. It is absolutely necessary for this mode. Therefore, it is easy to keep the sink always within reach for all future laundry and stain treatment situations.

When we set out to completely renovate our laundry room, we came up with a basic plan for a space under 40 square meters. Let’s think about how we want the whole room to function and how it will look.

In addition to functionality, we think seriously about what we really need in our laundry room. I have to be honest with myself and what I want to wash. My laundry routine involves picking up all the laundry in the house and taking it to the laundromat, sorting, washing each load, drying (we don’t have anything to hang to dry) and folding. immediately after washing.

For me, I don’t need a fancy clothes drying rack or ironing board to work. In order to have a space suitable for my needs, I need a folding table and space for a basket to organize the laundry.

In terms of style, I really like the farmhouse linen look. I browsed Pinterest for laundry room decorating ideas and saved them to my little laundry room ideas Pinterest board. My favorite source of inspiration is Martha Stewart’s laundry room. This inspired my love for the laundry room bar.

After thawing out a cup of red Solo, it didn’t take long before we decided to use laundry. This is definitely one of the easiest demo projects. We plan to replace the textured ceiling with a shiplap ceiling, cover the floors with pine planks, and cover the walls for smoothing. This means that the demo only requires removing the ceiling, paneling and wallpaper.

Stylish Garage Laundry Room Ideas We Love

We needed several muds and sandings to smooth the walls. And let’s face it, it’s an old house. The walls were never very smooth, but we got close.

Before we knew it, Shiplap had high ceilings and fresh white paint on the walls. I’ve painted a million rooms (okay, actually more like 13 in this house…some rooms multiple times) and it never ceases to amaze me the power of color. It can make a big difference in a room. If you’re only going to do one thing in your room, paint it. A fresh coat of paint can liven up a room without spending a lot of money. Hello white walls!

If there’s one thing all small spaces need, it’s optimizing square footage and limited space. My main plan to optimize the limited storage space is to build laundry racks above the washer and dryer.

I love that these shelves make storage easy. I can easily find cleaning supplies, dishcloths, trash bags, etc. without having to worry about the red Solo cups.

Laundry Room Ideas That Are Anything But Boring

Building laundry room shelves is an easy DIY project and fits well with our tight budget. This is a project that took a week to build and paint and an afternoon to organize and set up. You can read ALL the details in our post on building laundry room shelves.

Another big DIY project we tackled in this room was building a wooden washable worktop that can be assembled. This project was not easy as it used lumber and other staples from Home Depot.

If there’s one project that really maximizes the functionality of our laundry room, it’s adding a folding countertop above our washing machines. I love how it adds usable space for folding on top of our machines, goes into the back wall to prevent socks from being damaged at the back of the washer, and even allows you to store essential laundry products like detergent.

I can’t talk about our DIY laundry room renovation, let alone a new laundry room door. We took an old bedroom door that we didn’t need and turned it into a sliding door. We developed our own system for building a sliding door without buying a traditional barn door hardware kit at a fraction of the cost.

Laundry Room Makeovers

Let’s take a closer look at how we organize our laundry. This is a small room where we are careful about everything that comes in here. I also promise that the room is beautiful. That means swapping out some items for cuter vintage finds.

With open shelving, I like to keep only what we need and use regularly and replace anything plastic or “ugly looking” with nicer cleaning supplies. I am writing here and telling you that this is LIFE AGAIN. I started by replacing the boxes of Borax and Washing Soda (the ingredients in the homemade laundry detergent I’ve been making for the past four years…I still love it FYI) for prettier glass jars.

I made vintage inspired stickers using photoshop and sticker paper. After googling vintage stickers, I found some printables that were close but not quite right. The site took all the fonts, so I made my own stickers based on their designs. I just printed them out on sticker paper, cut them out and glued them into cheap glass jars from KMart.

Small changes like these are a great way to add style and personality to a utilitarian space. And who says a utilitarian space can’t be beautiful AND functional?

Laundry Ideas: Layout, Storage And Designs

The next shelf holds almost all the cleaning products in our homeware baskets. Cleaning cloths, trash bags, carpet cleaner, glass cleaner, etc. are all in the baskets above.

I keep other essentials like dusters, sponges and towels in covered baskets. Using baskets with lids increases storage space because the baskets can be stacked on top of each other on the shelves.

Under the bottom shelf is my favorite place. One day I went to Home Goods at
