Bathroom Remodel Design Ideas

Whether you live in the mountains, are lucky enough to be on the coast, or are in the beautiful central plains, be inspired by the nature that surrounds you.

“When we designed this bathroom, we were inspired by the beautiful beach where the house is located,” says interior designer Marissa Nelums of Glasshouse Interior. “We used a color palette of blue and white and then added gold for a touch of luxury. The back was the starting point for this room. The gold layer was unlike anything we had seen before, making it the perfect material for a fairytale house.

Keep in mind the existing features you like in your bathroom and plan to highlight them, as Nelums did in this room.

“When we designed this space, we wanted to emphasize the incredible height of the ceilings,” says Nelums. “We chose a classic black and white color palette and gave it character through the use of geometrically shaped tiles. The unique tiles gave this space a wow factor that is sure to impress any guest.”

Small Bathroom Design Ideas Before & After Look Pretty Little Social

Whether you’re designing a small powder room or a large bathroom, adding contrast to the room will help make a statement and add interest to the space.

“This bathroom doubles as a pool bathroom,” Nelems says. “Because it borders the Gulf of Mexico, we wanted to design with the water in mind. We used a beautiful blue vanity as the base of the room and white tiles to create contrast.”

Even if your budget doesn’t allow for a complete bathroom remodel, you can still optimize the look with smart design choices, as designer Joy Williams of Joyful Design Studio did here.

“We maxed out our budget for paint, light fixtures, new wood-effect porcelain floors, lighting and splash guards,” says Williams. “Our client was pleasantly surprised at how much we were able to achieve with so little and managed to keep the aesthetic consistent with the rest of the larger renovation, which included the addition of a new bedroom.”

The black and white color palette never fails, especially in the bathroom. The team at Hibou Design & Co. in Montreal added a lot of French touches to this space.

“We chose an elegant hotel theme with a classic black and white tiled floor with a custom motif that literally greets you every morning in French,” explain designers Corina Hamis and Evgenia Triandos. “Matte black faucets and fixtures complement this clean white palette. This contrasting color scheme is warmed by natural wood-style cabinetry. Modern industrial lighting completes this cool look.”

Between toiletries, makeup, and spare towels, bathrooms need a lot of storage space. If you’re lucky enough to have enough space, a built-in toilet can help you separate your cleansers from your skin care products. If not, take a note from Hibou Design & Co. and add a built-in ladder (or towel warmer if you like) to hang clean clothes.

Looking for a statement? A freestanding bathtub is the answer. Hibou Design & Co thought outside the white porcelain box and added a stunning black and white bathtub that helped modernize an old home.

Luxurious Bathroom Ideas That Will Blow Your Mind

“Given that this house was built in 1902, my main goal was to create a modern departure from the classic tiles,” explains the team at Hibou Design & Co. “I was able to incorporate traditional subway tiles laid in a modern herringbone pattern. and using the classic black and white hexagonal tiles to incorporate some of our local French culture. The creative freedom of this project was my favorite part, which ended up resulting in this really fun bathroom!”

There’s something about a traditional country bath that always works. In this room from Julia Alexander Interiors, rustic elements like wooden beams and a painted ship’s hat combine seamlessly with an antique tub and accessories for a cozy space that never goes out of style.

When you have such good looks, you have to show it off. In this room from Julia Alexander Interiors, a modern yet traditional bathroom maximizes the surrounding landscape through a large window and soft color palette.

A vanity is always recommended, but a floating vanity adds a whole other level of design to a room. In this bathroom from Julia Alexander Interiors, a crisp white floating toilet anchors the space (and makes it easy to clean underneath).

Elegant Large Bathroom Ideas

The toilet is like the jewel of your home – don’t hesitate to decorate it as impressively as you want. In this half bath from Gray Hunt Interiors, gorgeous green wallpaper gives a modern chevron look, adding a lot of personality to a small space.

It may seem like a small decision, but don’t make the grout color a memory. Color can completely change the look of your room. From classic options like white or black, like in this room from GreyHunt Interiors, to more fun options like hot pink (yes, really), take a minute to think about your options.

Metallic colors like silver, gold and shimmering bronze can automatically give a room a luxurious look. In this bathroom from GreyHunt Interiors, gold chandeliers are paired with shimmering gray wallpaper and brass fixtures for a truly opulent appeal.

Torn between the bath and the shower? Why not both? In this stunning bathroom from GreyHunt Interiors, a beautiful marble bathtub harmonizes perfectly with a black and white shower.

Luxury Bathroom Tips

“This tub doubles as a bench in this luxurious shower,” explains designer Sally J. Lord of GreyHunt Interiors. “We love how the luxurious gold Brizo shower enclosure accentuates the black herringbone pattern.”

You don’t have to focus on just one design element like wallpaper or bathroom tiles. Follow GreyHunt Interiors’ lead and combine the two for a unique space that feels incredibly luxurious.

A tiled bathroom looks super fresh and clean, especially with those white subway tiles and the neutral color palette.

“I love this design because it mixes traditional elements with new styles,” explains the team at Brexton Cole Interiors. “I added the very traditional Louis XVI mirror, vintage-style sink and tile floor…mixed with unexpected marble swirl wallpaper and modern yet eclectic art accents.”

Using light colors and a large mirror to reflect light, designer Jenn Pablo of Jenn Pablo Studio was able to transform a formally dark room into a light and airy space.

“The aim of the room was to completely transform it from a dark space like a toilet to an elevated and quiet toilet,” explains Pablo.

While large items like bathtubs, showers or toilets demand attention, don’t forget to think about accessories.

“Details are really important for this toilet,” says designer Anne Sage. “A myriad of different textures and patterns are layered on top of each other to create an incredibly fun and dynamic space – and yet thanks to the neutral color palette, the space still manages to feel like a peaceful place. What I particularly liked was the way we cut the back to match the built-in curve of the mirror. It’s so much fun to make a piece from a big box store (CB2 in this case) feel like a special piece!”

“This bathroom is located in an industrial loft in the heart of downtown Atlanta,” explains designer Justin Q Williams. “My client wanted to add a luxury element to this industrial space by incorporating modern lighting and a hotel atmosphere. I really enjoyed brightening up this space and incorporating luxury elements to enhance this bathroom.”

As mentioned earlier, bathrooms are the perfect place to play with design. Color, pattern and texture are welcome. Bright blue and white patterned wallpaper stands out in this room by Michelle Gage.
