Bathroom Decor Ideas Behind Toilet – Rookie Mistakes: A series of common decorating mistakes made by the novice designer and DIYer…! And no, I am not judging because I have made and will continue to make these mistakes!

I’m a little afraid to talk about today’s rookie mistakes because I know most bathrooms can look like this and you’re not doing anything “wrong”. Instead, I want to open your eyes to the possibility of improvement. so bear with me…

We are all familiar with toilet storage compartments, right? They fold over the toilet to provide additional storage and storage space. While I love the secret storage feature of these pieces of furniture (always great for hiding toiletries and stuff), I’m not a fan of them. They look a little dangerous… like they might fall on you!

In addition, they look temporary and as if they are an addition to the overall design of the bathroom. When you’re designing a space, you want the pieces to look like they belong. That’s why I love built-ins, custom made and built into your room. Yes, I understand that some bathrooms don’t have storage and these beauties do. But I think there are better alternatives to these cheap pieces of furniture.

So if you have a toilet situation, you will probably need a place to store toilet paper, towels, etc. I would recommend using a shelf, cabinet, or towel over the toilet instead. These will still provide storage space and look more intentional because they are attached to the wall. Here is a very easy DIY wooden shelf tutorial.

Small Bathroom Ideas & How To Make It Look Bigger

Although I’ve never used a towel rack in my home before (like a “train rack”…who knew?), I love the simple look of these.

There are a few things to consider before purchasing and installing. If you’re going with a train rack, maybe it should be special for displaying only clean towels and toilet paper. Displaying toiletries and bathroom accessories here can quickly become messy! Also, don’t install it too high! As we discussed in this post for beginners, you want to make sure you hang the shelves at the right height.

Another option is to add cabinets above your toilet. It provides storage and also makes things more attractive. In my master bathroom, I installed IKEA cabinets and filled shelves with all decorative and functional items (I keep matches, extra toilet paper, needles, tampons, and more!).

1, 2 or 3 cabinets can work above the toilet. Hang them at the right height and make sure your display looks neat (or it can start to look messy!). Or choose a shelf like this one.

Clever Ways To Decorate Above The Toilet

This last storage idea is adorable. I love this vintage cabinet above the toilet in our first floor bathroom. It adds charm, unity and storage space to the bathroom. This is another great idea if you need to store in a small space.

If you have the room, I also like old wardrobes or tall bedside cabinets to put in your bathroom (though not over the toilet!). It’s as good as it gets!

If you don’t need the extra storage, an over-the-toilet design can certainly work. However, there are some things to avoid…

I know I shared this photo on last month’s Newbie Mistake where we talked about scale, but it applies to today’s topic. The painting above the toilet is too small! This particular piece might work when paired with another larger piece, but it looks lonely and weird on its own.

Best Bathroom Designs

Bridget’s bathroom in her first home shows the perfect way to display artwork on the toilet. Two large frames take up enough space above the toilet and are also hung at the right height.

Sarah’s painting above the toilet in her bathroom is also a great example of how to do it right! The 3 frames work together to create a great visual effect and the end result is beautiful!

Friends, there’s a reason you don’t usually see many of my bathrooms. Even though I don’t care about them, a complete rebuild is out of the question as a priority and financially. But the area of our bathrooms that has given me the most trouble is the toilet in our master bathroom. Well, I talked about the amazing changes that were coming soon, but I wasn’t tight-lipped about where it was… I’m so happy to finally share the big changes that we accomplished in less than two days. You will not hear much about toilet cubicles – what they should look for or what they are capable of. At first it was very ordinary – an empty room-like a hole. Without natural light, the color looks very dark and sad. Can you believe it’s the same color in our master bedroom that looks so light and bright?!

When I decided on this project, I considered several things. 1. It should be quick and painless. Since I was in the middle of a major master bedroom renovation (to be revealed this Thursday!), I didn’t want to take anything for granted.

Affordable Bathroom Wall Decor Ideas For Modern Lifestyles

Hard work. 2. I wanted to make full use of this space and add some features. It’s a small room (hello, its purpose is to house the toilet), but it’s big enough to find creative storage solutions and answer my other space challenges. 3. I wanted it to be “happy”, bright and bright. The result?

, No ripping up tiles, no grouting…just cosmetic and maintenance improvements. I didn’t even have to order from multiple sources – Bath Bed & Beyond had everything from curtains to lamps (I had no idea they carried this kind of stuff, let alone furniture like a complete vanity). I used to love seeing everything arrive at my door, but after everything arrived, I did a quick check to make sure I didn’t forget anything (and check the appliance wall – my favorite part of shopping at the BB&B store, haha). They have my favorite cleaning line (I’ve talked about it many times before) so I picked up a few extra bottles of Hops.

So there were a few areas we tackled – 1. Walls (new paint and wallpaper), 2. Lighting (removing “chest lights”), 3. Storage and finally 4. Accessories. The first thing I did was remove everything (it wasn’t much! haha), remove the lamp and paint the walls with the remaining Benjamin Moore Simply White paint from the bedroom. I’m not a painter but I thought if the room was small I could break it up. I didn’t expect to bring outdoor work lights (I thought what would happen when the fixtures were removed, no natural light?! Haha) nor was I prepared for the amount of layers (primer, different ceiling colors, etc.)) And I was just praying that after installing the light should show that it was working perfectly. (Thank God it worked!) The painting was honestly 3/4 of the work in the entire room. Oh, and if you want to dye like I did, make sure you pull your hair in the highest, messiest part possible, so it adds textured strokes to the walls and you can still remove the dye from your hair two weeks later.
