One of the most important steps (and my favorite) is to create a vision board – this is very important because like everything else in life, you don’t want to go blind and end up a disaster.
I like to start with a vision board so I can clearly see what colors I’m vibrating with, what style speaks to me, etc. If you ever get stuck and don’t know which direction to go, create a vision board. Even if you think the inspiration images you’re using don’t go together, eventually you’ll see that they do (99% of the time).
Everyone has their own style when creating a vision board. For me personally, I like to do my thing on Pinterest. It’s the easiest way I’ve found and they usually have all the inspiration I want and more.

After I create a vision board on Pinterest, I copy and paste the images into a Google Doc, print them out, cut them out, stick them on the board, and voila, the vision board is done. Creating a vision board is also very therapeutic and motivating (see how I love them?).
As I mentioned earlier, there are many ways to create a vision board. For you, the best way is to cut out pictures from magazines, use Instagram or go back to Tumblr (they have really good pictures).
If you don’t want to bother with cutting out images, you can still create a Pinterest vision board, just don’t print it! You’ll still be able to get a good idea of the style you’re going for.
Gosh, this tip is so important. In fact, if you have a small space, stick to bright colors!! I promise you can pick up your moody dark colors when you get your mansion, but bright colors will make your entire space look 10 times bigger than it really is.

Also the paint is not expensive!! This is something you can do in a weekend that will transform your space. Dark colors absorb all the light from the rooms, especially if they are small. But that doesn’t mean you can only use white if you like blue, there are so many beautiful light blues out there that look amazing. Stick to your taste, try to be as light as possible when it comes to your walls and large pieces (furniture, paintings, etc.).
Apartments are notoriously small and you don’t want to deliberately create a claustrophobic room – this is great advice when you’re on a budget as I’m basically telling you not to buy more than you need. Less is more. I repeat, less is more.
Too much detail can do more harm than good. Simple and minimal is so much better for an apartment and I promise you it doesn’t look easy when it all comes together! You try to put together a puzzle and you get very overwhelmed when every piece is too complicated.
Screens!! Seriously, they get the job done. I love adding curtains to my room when I want a little spice and feel a little more sophisticated. Actually, if you want to feel put together, add curtains haha. Thanks to them, your space will look and feel 10 times more expensive.

If you want to save, put on your creativity cap, most of the pieces are great, but a quick DIY might be needed. But I promise, at the end of the day, you’ll be very thankful for being frugal!
